Is there a way to make the Mac version of Safari open any links which open in "_blank" open in tabs instead of new windows?

I've found a good solution called 'Stand' which fixes this, if anybody else found the way it handled them annoying.

press cmd+,

its a default setting to allow sites from like msn etc to open in a tab instead of a new window

That irritates me as well, I love that you can now drag the tab of the new unwanted window back to the original window. It closes the new window and adds a new tab to your original window with the page loaded. It's not a fix, but it's a quick way to keep the new page and lose the extra window.

SafariStand can do this (force new windows to open in new tabs)

It can also automatically restore windows and such from the last session, very useful.

I made a thread about this on March 23, 2007.

Open up Terminal in Mac OS X and enter this:
CODE
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

You do not need SafariStand or any other applications/plug-ins. Safari 3.1 will now force all links to open in new tabs in the same window. The only exclusion are JavaScript windows that are resized (like videos and Flash games).

Hope that helps.

(You need the latest version of Safari which is 3.1).
