Do you have Compiz-Fusion installed as well?

In Synaptic input avant-core-applets in the search box.

BTW, there is a newer version of AWN over at GetDeb. It's 0.2.6.

yes, i installed the new distro 0.2.6. you have to download and install the applets/extras separately, which i did. i have been messing with this all day and i still don't know how to install the applets ? is there an easy way to do this other than by terminal ? there are soo many different guides on how to do this online. im going to give up on it tonight, hopefully one of you can come up with an easy solution for me.

You should install via the "official" way:
CODE
sudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator awn-manager

For Launchers, yes they tend to disappear, but what I do is add all the Launchers to a Folder in my home Folder, and then add them through there (you can drag them to the dock).
