GNU / Linux April 2008 Desktops - Posting Guidelines


* If you plan to img-embed your desktop, please try to keep it under 100k (It's recommended that you link it, externally).

* Stay within the board rules, no matter how yummy you may believe it to be.

* If you are going to quote, there isn't a need to quote an img-embeded picture - Just don't do it. Please just reference the post by page number/page link/etc.

* Off Topic Posts will be edited or removed.

* The desktops thread is not to be used as a means to post images of a pornographic or otherwise provocative nature. We do not support a babes forum and neither will we in an unofficial capacity. Please help to keep the thread relevant and safe to browse for everyone.

* The moderators of this forum reserve the right to edit or remove your posts as necessary so they may comply with our Community Rules.

* In the interests of keeping the thread on topic it is strongly urged that you format your posts in the following order:

Themes: Name/where you got it (with link would be nice).

Wallpaper: Name/where you got it (with link would be nice).

mine's the usual.

very nice, i wanna try something like that when i try linux. i'm a complete noob, and there are soo many different distros, themes, etc. I havent a clue where to start, but ima look around here and see whats nice.

Every few months I will post one. About the only thing that ever changes is my wallpaper.

I'm not big into constant retheming or anything like that.

I decided to show of my desktop after a few months of looking at members desktop! I've seen pretty good ones here, here's my attempt to look nice

Well if you wanna try something out I'd recommend Ubuntu. It's a good starting point. Also this month a new version is coming out. If you want wait till that comes out and download it. It is going to include a new feature that lets you install inside windows so that you dont have to touch partitions or your boot record. PM me if you want to know more, or just post up here I'm sure lots of people will be glad to help.

gnome panel as a sidebar

running compiz fusion.
got rid of awn...was getting kinda sick of it.
decided i liked a more vista-kde kinda look. just for the fun of it.
using emerald window manager--the theme is a modified kore theme.

Thanks!! I upgraded to Hardy and decided that I wanted a complete overhaul.. I found the pack at gnome-look.org and liked it so well that I threw it up on my server for everyone to enjoy!

Enkazin hows Gnome working for you? Mine was all broken so I temporarily* switched to Xfce because Gnome was... well, completely broken, which was confirmed by a few people on the Arch IRC.

*temporarily might become permanently depending on how I adapt.

I havnt had one problem with it yet, and this machine has been running for a few days so far. Other than the mtp bug within rhythmbox, I love it

I know it's really boring... But hey! I switched to Linux and I'm loving it!

Cool, rock on I recently am toying with Linux. Not fully switched (and never will due to my job being a games programmer, which NEEDS Windows based API's and VStudio), but I'm still having fun.

Remember that 8.04 goes final next week, so keep updating! If what I've been reading is right, if you just update all of your stuff, it should just update your beta version to the final version (in terms of software and what-not).
