Can someone please provide me with some really good screenshots and whatnot of the hotmail UI in 1998?
hotmail in 1998 was something special to me. It was my first real email account, and i actually loved the UI and how you could customize the them and such, and enjoyed it much more than what it has turned into now.

I'd like to be able to enjoy the look again and have some screenshots bring back memories.

I know that i can visit archive.org and see the main login pages and such, but that doesn't really do it any justice since you can't actually access the UI.

Could someone please provide these? it'd be mighty kind tongue.gif

yeah or a little bigger but oh god if you were sent an image you had to grab a magnifying glass to see it (well most of the time)

Remember back then when you clicked on a link in an email you'd see the "You are visiting a site outside of Hotmail, close this window to return" or something to that effect. I don't miss that part, but otherwise I kinda miss the old Hotmail.

I used to use hotmail... back in the day.

2MB ftw ...you could barely store like 50 ~ 100MBs depending on attachments.
Have been using Hotmail every day since 1999. It rocks smile.gif

I still remember me having to alter my zipcode to get the storage upgrades faster.

2MB > 10MB > 25MB > 200MB > 500MB > 2000MB > 5000MB

I barely use it all tough .. it's my primary account and I hardly throw stuff away .. and it's 250MB.
Before Hotmail I used Yahoo .. Have always liked Hotmail more.

Hotmail dominated the Dutch webmail market. Nearly everone still has Hotmail here.
The Firefox hipsters switched to Gmail but most people are still on Hotmail / WLM

Errm, why bother saying you don't mean to be a troll when your obviously trolling? Infact, why post at all?

Edit: Sigh, I wish I'd had a computer back when the Web was born, it would have been so much fun developing websites and watching how everything improved as browsers evolved. smile.gif

You aren'y trolling. it did really suck, and still kinda does (i got a good @live.com email addy now though! ha).
But back then you didn't have that many choices, and almost all of the other providers sucked as well.

If you think about it. 2mb wasn't much, but it did its job back then. In 1998 we didn't have very many pixels and i think it was 16bit color. i don't remember much but sometime i around there is when we get 32bit. I actually think my first pc was only 256colors. i don't remember. So the file sizes weren't that large.

but i do wish they gave us more space because then we'd of been able to save some of our first emails and such and review them today! Which would be cool.

I'll keep looking for screenshots.

i miss them net days. Were much more exiting and interseting. this 2.0 stuff is buggin me. sad.gif

I joined only a short year after that. Although I was lurking by then. Fun times.

I have had my hotmail account since 1999. I honestly didn't even remember what it looked like then, and haven't used my hotmail for much in the last 6 years or so.
