Hey,

Basically I have a Macbook Pro 15" C2D 2.33, 2GB RAM and x1600. I have played with the lower end Macs as my Mum and sister both have them, but I haven't used them extensively. I want something I bit smaller and more portable than the Macbook pro and I was just wondering what the downfalls of the Macbook Blacks (or white) are for those who use it everyday. If I don't end up getting a Macbook I'll end up trying to get a Dell XPS 1330 laptop.

And insight would be great! Thanks!
Dane
I know that macbooks have a low end graphics card...thats the only thing i can think of.

yeah I realise this, but just thinking from day to day activities more.

You would be downgrading the graphics chip indeed but if you are getting a new Macbook model then you are also getting a slightly faster processor and indeed more moblity.

Its no biggie really. Why do you need a 15.4" screen to read emails and do a bit of web browsing? If its portability you are after, then go for the switch.

air.

air is the silliest thing i've seen. just get macbook. whats the point of it being thin when you have to lug around a dvd drive? i call that pointless.

air.

thought about the air for about 2 seconds looked at the clip they have on the site, but 1 usb just doesnt cut it. 2 usb's really isnt enough in the first place but I can at least deal with that.

Things I need are.

VMWare.
Cisco Configuration.
Email, Web.
messenger.
Music

Nothing really graphic intensive.

I recently got a new Macbook C2D 2.4ghz 2gb ram, and it is damn nice, only thing that sucks is that my iMac C2D 2.33ghz 2gb ram, hasn't been used in 2 weeks.

Unless you need video/graphic intensive hardware, go with the Macbook.

The Air wouldn't work for you also because most Cisco tools require a serial port. wink.gif

Exactly and I use a keyspan via USB all the time for the serial port.

I'm thinking of maybe now keeping and using the macbook pro as a desktop type machine and getting the macbook as my laptop.

Good idea, a MacBook Pro is a perfect Workstation Replacement unit, throw a 30-inch display on it and have fun running it headless!

Do they have Wake on LAN while in sleep mode for the Macs? because that would be very handy!

What's the point of spending 2 grand for a piece of ****.

Who cares how thin it is?

Get a blackbook, they're pretty cool, and portable smile.gif

Don't forget the virtualisation: on the Air you've "only" got 2 GB (not upgradable to 4), a slower hdd (if you choose the normal hdd and not the ssd) and a slower cpu.

My only gripe about the macbook is the lack of a backlight keyboard. I won't be able to let go of my MBP until that happens!
