Hi. After dinner I downloaded the CD image from OpenBSD and try to install it on my computer via VirtualBox. At first, I designed the size of directories in following way:

/ - 100MB
swap - 1GB
/tmp - 500MB
/var - 500MB
/usr - 3GB
/home - 500MB

At the beginning of installation of system, I managed to use the whole hard disk for OpenBSD. I partitioned the hard disk, but after I quited the partitioning section, there was always an error:



I wonder why would this happen? I haven't put anything in the directory! Or it is my / directory too small? Anyway, I tried again and make / directory to 3GB large. Now the installation went smoothly.

However, the same error appeared when I have configured the network settings.



OMG, could someone point out my mistakes? Compared to Linux (I use Debian on my server), the installation of BSD is much difficult to me. I also want to know how large should the / directory be?

Not positive if it's the same in OpenBSD off the top of my head, but FreeBSD has an option on the partition configuration menu to automatically figure out the partitioning. Is their something similar? I had the same issues as you did until I let the installer configure it for me. Yes, BSD systems really are so much more complicated to setup for me too

Apparently it's a known issue.

Strange, they said that the bug was fixed, but the segmentation error still unsolved...

I will switch to VMware and try again.
