I've got an 8GB iPod Touch (Old version), and the Play/Skip count has never been working right.

It basically doesn't count anything. It might count 1 very, very, VERY rarely - but in general it just doesn't work.

It's never worked right. I've upgraded, reset, jailbroken, reverted, restored... you name it. It's been done.

Is it a known problem or is there something wrong with my iPod?

Okay, I kinda figured it out for myself.

I don't let a song run all the way through. The silence at the end - I'll skip to the next track - and I TAKE it this means it doesn't count as a play.

And sometimes I'll start the song, and fast-forward it to a certain point and listen from there - and THAT doesn't count as a play either?

Very annoying behaviour! sad.gif

I'd rather have it so it counts a song as a 'play' once it's been on for a minute or something.

unfortunately this is standard even in computer audio players that have counters too.

That's dumb... I like how Last.fm does it; it counts a "play" when you listen to half the song.

This is normal behavior, iTunes does this as well if you skip to the next song even if there are only 2 seconds left of the currently playing song, it doesn't register as being played and therefore does not raise the counter.

That's just crap. tongue.gif I have a lot of prog rock on my iPod, and there is NO way I'm listening to 9 minutes of intro just to get the play count up. >.>

I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's only a numerical value. Just enjoy your music. smile.gif

...and rate songs (as annoying as that is). But I'm pretty sure if you want to pad out play counts for whatever reason, in iTunes going right to the end of a song with a few seconds left to play out will bump the play count up.
Jedimark
I believe the skip counter only increments if you skip the track between 2 and 5 seconds into the track.

It's not though. It's the basis of what SHOULD be my favourite playlist - When I open the 'Top 25 Most Played' it just comes up with 10 songs I like and 15 songs I don't class as 'Top 25'.

And there is actually a problem with it. I know for a FACT that I've played through a song at least 3 times today and it's not counted it AT ALL. What a load of ... yanno. smile.gif
