Just upgraded my iPod Touch to firmware 2.0 (Apple charged me £5).
Then when I had a look at the AppStore, all I found was crappy version of apps that I had on my JailBroken iPod. The number of appls is VERY limited too. Of course this will increase but anything that is remotely good, you'll have to pay out for and God knows if you can get a refund if the app turns out to be iCrap?
Disappointed over all.

Give it time. Those people working for apps for JB just went on board for the devkit, like a transition phrase. Eventually innovation comes in and let it take control. What were you expecting btw?

I have found a few good applications on the App Store, including Remote and Facebook; and while pointless, PhoneSaber was actually kind of fun. I'm sure there will be more to come.
Limited? There were almost 600 Apps available. Now not all of them useful to everyone, but they were definitely not limited.

FB and PhoneSaber are the best apps on there - and that says something.
I used to use a program called "Converter" that converts currencies, measurements, weights, temperatures, you name it.
The closest app to that is a iCrappy currency converter and there is one where the conversion rate is fixed!!!! WTF? You won't even know that it doesn't allow your to change the rater of the currency type until you've paid for it.
If Apple have allowed these crappy apps for the launch, how will the quality of future apps be guaranteed?

Agreed. So far I don't see anything that's any better than what's already available on Installer. Not that I expected anything else. I'm sure the quality will increase in time, but I don't know why people that were already Jailbroken were so excited for AppStore. It's the same crap that's on Installer, only in a lot of cases not free. I can see how you would be excited if you weren't Jailbroken, but otherwise it's not something to get all that excited about at this point.

Why doesn't it allow you to download the non-free apps to try out as shareware before you fork out the cash? Some of the crappy apps are about $40!
Also the "back" function doesn't take you back to where you were on the list but rather to the top of the list!

I don't know if its a bug or not, but I have downloaded Super Monkey Ball and the Dice Poker game without paying for them (yet?). Did this right from the iPod itself and not from iTunes. I really like the Poker game and Super Monkey Ball is going to take some getting use to.

I got an email with a list of all my 'purchases' (which were all free) from the iTunes store at the end of the day, so maybe they don't bill you until then for Applications?

Have yet to receive any email from them either. If you include the free ones, I downloaded 5 Apps yesterday morning. I don't know if it was because I did it when they were having all the problems that some how my purchases never got picked up or what. For now I am not going to complain.

Yeah I didn't pay the $9.95 for that either. Downloaded it right from Apple though. Don't know if that has something to do with not being charged for the apps or not.

There must be *something* there that interests you. Download a game or something. Developing a good app takes time, so in the future better apps should come out.

Sheesh, people complain about the strangest stuff. I happen to think the apps are pretty good for being on launch day. And you know there are many more in current development.

There are some good ones like Aurora Feint The Beginning and Trism. Tap Tap revenge is awesome also. They also have a free perscription dictionary.
Id like to be able to try the software before I make a final purchase, prices of some of those apps are a little outrageous.

A trial system would be great. The apps are already DRMed - surely Apple could implement a way of giving people a free trial before they buy the app.
We're going to be inundated with Hold 'Em games, and you won't be able to tell which (if any) are any good.

How long do you think it would take for the DRM to be broken and have all the apps up for download somewhere for free? Apple has a duty to make sure the apps are kept secure so the developers get the money they're expecting.
TonyLock
Jul 12 2008, 19:11
With the 5th Gen iPod games, there was a flash demo. Apple should have demanded the apps on the AppSore also inlude such a thing.
And anyways, whether or not DRM can be broken is irrelavant. We sould be able to try the softweare before realising it's complete iCrap and we can't get our money back. Try our 10 apps are your are out around $50+

Google Mobile App in the AppStore yet? I can't find it, I thought it would have been ready by now since Google is already advertising it:

Crappy?

I'm loving it. I've already downloaded about 10 apps so far and am in love with those. My favorite is by far the AOL Radio app. I've been streaming a talk radio and classical music stations in my office all morning now (my office cannot get radio, all I get is static and streaming off my companies network is blocked).

Uh, what? Google Mobile was one of the first apps I downloaded when the store opened up

iTunes Store > App Store > Top Free Apps (it's the bottom section on the right hand side of the App Store home page, it's #10).
If you still can't find it, then I presume you're right, ynnoj.

In the iTunes store at the bottom of the page you can change your store location to United States and then you will have access to the Google Mobile App. However, you have to create a new account to obtain it.
Is there any other way to obtain this app?

I'm actually really excited to start using the App Store. I've been browsing around and found quite a few that would be very useful. Nothing like it on Windows Mobile.
The Remote app is extremely useful.
Super Monkey Ball is quite fun with the accelerometer.

For international users who want the Google Mobile App here is some news as of 40 minutes ago,
Hey all,
Sorry for not including this in my original post, but I wanted to
