Full Version: Question to the shift linux DEV team

I've written Novell on this idea but thought, why not ask here? I'm a photographer. I use a Canon 400D(Digital rebel Xti) and I would enjoy being able to transfer AWAY from windows to linux.

one or two problems though.

Drivers. Camera drivers would be necessary for moving pictures from cam to harddrive.
Plugins. I'd need "a" .RAW plugin for being able to use my Canon .RAW format. goes for Nikon as well for those folks. wink.gif
and good applications for photo editing, like a photoshop like app.

With this I would feel safe AND confident in swithing to Linux

That would be great.

Unfortunately, when the Linux kernel developers offer free driver writing to OEMs, and even have an officially-sanctioned team, the Linux Driver Project.

Greg KH, who started this amazing free offer, even works for Novell, whom you have already written. So, I suppose they can contact you back and tell you they have already offered to Canon to write their drivers for free.

Maybe you ought to write Canon, as an upset customer? I think that would be more effective than asking the Shift team to do what the kernel devs cannot (even when the offer to do the work for free).

ah I see. I have written them awhile back but as of yet..no response. Linux has alot of possibilities...it can steal customers away from MS and Apple.

Murdock, you're the bomb man. thanks for that juicy information. I think when my new notebook arrives next income tax return time, I'll use linux. again...many thanks

Glad you found a solution. Mark is indeed correct. We can not do what the kernel devs can't....... at least not until they raise our pay here.... laugh.gif
