Neither of these questions really make sense.
First of all, what's up with the use of the word "if"? I'm pretty sure Windows 7 will come out. And why such a comparison? These are OSes which are nearly a decade apart. That's like asking "If Windows XP is like Windows 2000, will you consider going back to Windows For Workgroups 3.11?

From one standpoint, it just looks like a backhanded way of inviting more people to flame Windows Vista.

First poll: Like devHead, Windows 7 will come out. Also, Windows XP will most likely be already dead due to the fact that no new copies are being made. If anything, people may rather stick with XP than install 7, and people may even stick with Vista instead of going 7 as well (most likely in my case).

Second poll: This is assuming that people will not consider Vista as an option. I tried Vista hen it came out and hated it, although now that SP1 was released I have moved to Ultimate x64 and love it. By the time 7 is released people may come to love how Vista has grown to the state it should have been released in.

If you hadn't figured it out already, I voted "other" in both polls.

I had to choose other for both questions. Past releases of Windows have always managed to survive for a long time well after a new release is on the market. When Windows 2000 was on the market for a considerable amount time, Windows NT 4 was still chugging along just fine with many Company's still deploying it. My Company for instance didn't start deploying Windows 2000 until about the summer of 2003 (approximately 4 years after its initial release). Windows XP will be around for a very long time, especially with the extended life for XP Home Edition on sub notebooks. Microsoft will continue to provide support for XP Professional upon until April 2014.

Windows 7 in many ways will be just like Windows Vista with good reason. Windows 7 is an evolution in development based on the Windows Server 2008 SP1 kernel. This means that investments consumers and businesses make today in Windows Vista will or should run just fine on Windows 7. The fact that Vista adoption is growing with an estimated 20 million copies per month with an estimated 180 millions licenses deployed so far, a lot of people have invested heavily in the OS and expect that with Windows 7, the hardware and software compatibility issues that plagued Vista during its initial release won't repeat itself.

If Windows 7 is less bloated and is more streamlined, then I'll happily use it. If it's the same or worse than Vista, then I'll be at a crossroads. Depending on how well supported hardware at the time is, I will either use XP or will consider learning and using Linux.

I'm assuming that there will be a dropoff in new hardware support after late 2009 when it comes to XP. Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

Anyway, I'll dual-boot with 7 and Vista. The world needs to move away from XP. If all the anti-Vista trolls want to stick with XP, we might as well also stop developing new hardware and keep everything as is for the next 10 years.

I really don't know what the future of Windows XP will be after Windows 7. Windows XP's standard support will stop in 2009. Then in 2014, the extended support will end. By 2010 (when I think Windows 7 will be released), I will probably have a new computer.

XP will continue when 7 is released. There are programs that will not be upgraded to Vista, much less W7, so there will be people that are forced to continue XP, much like there are people who are forced to use DOS to this day. So, it's a moot question to ask... it bears little relevance to reality and dismisses it likewise.

And if W7 is just like Vista, I'd upgrade to it if possible since Vista works perfectly well for me. I have had 0 issues with Vista since it RTM'd on 4 computers... and no problems even on my old MSI K7N2-G / Athlon XP 2000+/ 1GB / fx5200 machine.

So being 13 and all, I can forgive your naivete. After all, you don't know better. You don't know fecal residue for that matter.

If you've got a problem with the way things are: go get a job, earn a living, and fix the world... while you still know more than everyone else. Then don't get mad if somehow you end up working for me and I have no sympathy.

Of cause Windows XP will still be around after Windows 7, especially in the business world. XP is a rock solid OS and still has alot of life left in it I'd say. Even if Win7 turns out to be what Vista never was, XP will probably remain the default OS for many companies (hell some are using Win2k and earlier still).

To consumers? I dunno, depends on how well (or badly) Win7 is accepted by everyone. XP (and the demand for it) has remained strong because of how badly Vista is going (while it has improved, the bad reputation continues), can Win7 convince these nay sayers to give up their trusty XP and upgrade? only time will tell. That is my 2 cents take with a grain of salt.

Windows 7 hasn't even been released let alone any information we know of..

Since windows 7 is part of the proff line like XP I will most likely make the change even at launch with all its bugs.




He got it easy Ive used mmorpg.com fourms for awhile and they will tear new people apart for a controversial thread.

I'm running Vista since it's out and I've never had any problem with it. I keep my PC "current" with modern hardware, that probably helps allot.

I really don't know what is all the fuzz with Vista, even more so since SP1 is out. It's nice, look good, do what I need and no driver problems. Maybe it's because I know what I'm doing with my PC.


The only place I'm using WinXP is on my Acer One. I can't imagine Vista even booting on the thing.

Some people still use 98 because they see no reason to upgrade. I think the same will happen with XP.
