Hi, I've been to the Wine FAQ this afternoon with my favorite browser Opera, under Windows XP. And I had an unpleasant surprise I recall experiencing several times under Linux but never yet under Windows: fonts looking BAD:

As usual when things don't render correctly under Opera, IE7 does it perfect:

Just tested this at home, with Vista, and fonts look nice with Opera. Is this a Windows XP problem?

WinXP firefox 3.0.1 (everything fresh install)

It's not using anything special for the fonts (Bitstream Vera Sans, then Verdana), only thing I can think of is that the font is too small to receive anti aliasing.

IE7 enables ClearType for content by default. To get the same rendering in other applications, it has to be enabled globally.

Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Effects
Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:
ClearType
