Hi Techies

I was initially googlin my way around the web to find a fix for the problem of added contacts in msn which were showing as offline when they said they can see me but I couldnt.

Then I came across this fix below which advised I can use to work around the issue.

Now I navigated to the desired folders as prescribed and also ran a wlm_policies reg file and since then my MSN Live Contacts for Version 8.0 of msn are all MISSING!!! The Layout of my Sub groups are all gone and I am panicking as I even used my wits in trying to restore my contacts by exporting my msn contact ctt file from my laptop and still no success.

Can someone please advise me if their is a registry fix or some means of how I can restore my MSN 8.0 contacts back to how it was originally please.

I know it can be brought back as I installed MSN 7.0 and I can see the original structure of my contacts and sub groups but when I reinstall version 8.0 it shows me an empty slate with un-added contacts.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

Delete your Contacts Cache folder...

You will loose nothing with this. The only thing which you might notice is a slightly longer delay in logging in the next time you start up Messenger (since the cache list needs to be rebuild).

In order to do this you first need to make sure you can see hidden files and system files in Windows Explorer:
Start Windows Explorer (or press <WIN>+<E> for quick shortcut)

Go to Tools > Folder Options > View tab

in the Advanced Settings list, tick "Show hidden files and folders"

in that same Advanced Settings list, untick "Hide extensions for known file types"

Press Ok.

To delete your cached directories:

With Windows Explorer, navigate to:
C:\Documents and Settings\your_windows_login\Contacts\your_msn_mail

Delete the entire subdirectory named your_msn_mail.

Now navigate to the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\your_windows_login\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\your_msn_mail

Delete the entire subdirectory named your_msn_mail.
