some speculation from PCmagazine as to what's coming
--A larger, horizontal screen on the iPod nano. Get ready to say goodbye to the lukewarmly received "fat" nano, and hello to a more Zune-like orientation.
--Higher-capacity iPod touches. 64GB, anyone?
--Price drops across the iPod touch line.
--The end of the spinning-hard-drive-based iPod...? Our guess is that this will be the iPod Classics's death-rattle, as Flash-based players continue to bulk up.

sweet! apple just offered to replace my first gen nano for free (due to overheating and my magsafe suddenly melting). brand new ipod nano, here I come
Well, I'm not interested in any new iPods, but I'm looking forward to the possibility of iTunes 8 being released next week.

Good thing it's on the 9th, just in time before the world collapses into a black hole.

What does magsafe have to do with your iPod?

The last time that iTune was performing well enough for my taste was WAY back, like iTune 4.0 or something like that.
Now iTune is the be-all end-all for Apple. Jack of all trade, sync your iPod, iPhone, activate iPhone, Music Store, video, apps store, coverflow, ....... It feels heavy.

What would you suggest? A separate app for each of those functions? I don't think that would work somehow. And anyway, you only see the features you want to see. It's not like Apple is forcing you to load every single part of the application every single time.

I'm dying to see the new Macbook Pro's
Check out this Mock up of a Black Macbook Pro
looks tight....although I don't like the thick rim around the screen and not fond of glass either.

Yeh those 3G iphones killing the battery time when in 3G mode.... haven't they updated the firmware to fix that though ?

Maybe they will announce those fugly rounded iPod nanos. (The second concept was better). But yeah, I'm also hoping iTunes 8 comes out. Hopefully the bug where iTunes crashes if shapshifter is trying to skin it is fixed (but I'm hoping too much =P)

All I want is iTunes to be re-written in Cocoa, that'd solve a mountain of issues and obviously create a few other issues.
Of course the key here is that iTunes would then be a 64-bit application which would fall in with Mac OS X Snow Leopard development.
iPhone bug fixes are also on my Must Have list. 2.0.2 = crappy battery

More detailed predictions on what will be released on September 9th here:
http://switchtoamac.com/site/macbook-and-m...tes-likely.html
Wow, Macrumors said it could be a sign of MBs and MBPs being pushed to October.
If true, very bad marketing, very bad... students just began, they want their laptops and are not going to look at Apple's if the specs are outdated. The curious generation about OS X won't wait until october, they will buy a Windows laptop. Fans of OS X will wait, but if we look closer at the market share, the last category is 10x smaller

To, say, confirm this, I don't see a whole new iPod generation being announced for 7 days only on Apple.com's main page, it's gonna last a couple of weeks, THEN we will see MBs and/or MBPs.

The sad thing for me is, I already bought a mouse for my future MB *sigh*

Are they releasing newer regular (non-nano) iPods also?
iTunes is way to hefty but still not that bad. I actually like the Zune software (2.5 atleast) more but I still like iTunes also.

Sep 2 2008, 21:59
They always update their entire iPod lineup, so I'd say so.

My guess is a 120GB and 200GB Classic.
I've been hoping forever... they need to get a mac mini revision or replacement out... or atleast a new update to the current hardware...
StevoJD
Sep 3 2008, 02:04
Doubt they will update the Mac Mini until next year really. It's the low-end Mac, and Apple likes to enforce that.
Or they better cut its price in half, cuz frankly it isn't worth a lot judging by its specs.
There's a huge letdown on the Mac side of their enterprise... The imac update was good, but the rest... come on, nothing happens.

I'm risking life and limb here to tell you what iTunes 8 will include. Because I love Neowin so much, here is what iTunes 8 will do:
- Syncs with iPod nano 4G
- Syncs with iPod touch 2G
- Allows you to subscribe to the iTunes Unlimited music service
- Will download lyrics for all of your songs
- All your purchased music will be converted to iTunes Plus on first run (Does not include iTunes Unlimited content)
- Music Videos and Video Podcasts added to the LIBRARY section
- A new CATEGORIES section is added
- Washes your dishes with every iPhone sync
- Cleans your house with every iPod sync
- Takes the kids to school when you update your Podcasts
- Cures Cancer on first run
- Contains bug fixes for Global Warming
- Play music
My sources include Steve Jobs, so you don't have to question me. He told me all this while we were doing Yoga at Starbucks while Jon was designing the Mac Tablet in the background. Phil was busy knitting iPhone socks. He always gets stuck doing that

If it's like the CD cover service, I don't care

I mean, why do I need an iTunes account for that?!
Please:
iPod Classic with 160GB or more with WiFi.
Better sound qualityThat would have me sold

I never understood that one either. WMP11 automatically grabs album artwork for you without an account...
I really hope there will be a new macbook pro
^Me too, although I somehow doubt it.
Sad thing is, if there won't be a MacBook Pro update at the upcoming event they probably won't come out in September as that would draw off iPod attention imho.

I hope for a Touch with more memory at the same price.

As much as I doubt it will happen, a 32GB touch for around £200 please (the creative zen xfi 32GB is £220 ish, so I don't see why apple can't do it too), and I'll be scrapping my pennies to get one.
I'd probably jump at a £150 16GB one too.

Noooo, don't make the touch like a slim iPhone 3G, I hate the iPhone 3G's design

Crappy plastic, stupid curve...yeuch. The original felt much nicer.
osirisX
Sep 4 2008, 21:47
Compared to the original touch design, the iPhone 3G feels heaps better. The curve sits much more nicely in your hand.
I've also heard that the source code for the new Itunes will contain Steve Jobs's DNA.

exciting

Not prospecting an upgrade for myself yet though, no way till those i7's come out, thats the only time I see it as being a worthy upgrade
will be interesting... if ipod touch gets gps and different design i might just have to buy another one for lulz and comparison it would make it a good cheaper alternative to iphone 3g sif paying $900+ NZD for non contract thing just for gps and stuff
