So you like how fast Chrome loads up, and you want to use it as your default browser. But at least on Vista, there's two problems. One, there's no icon larger than 48x48. Two, if you do give Chrome all its defaults in Vista's Default Programs, your files come up as the app's icon.

Like I've done with Firefox and Opera, I've inserted larger icons into the Chrome.exe file, plus added a HTML icon. You may notice the styling of the app's stock 16/32/48 icons differ than the 128/256 icons I created. I tried downsizing the 256 icon, but it looked like crap compared to what Google put in. Thus, I left the default 16/32/48 icons as is. If anyone can create properly styled 128/256 icons, that would be great. smile.gif

Download the patch below. Extract all files (except the text file) to the folder Chrome is installed in (AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application). Close all Chrome windows, then run Patch.bat.

Because Google hasn't set a filetype icon for HTML files, you'll have to change it yourself. Open up Regedit, then go to the following keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ChromeHTML\DefaultIcon
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ftp\DefaultIcon
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\DefaultIcon
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\DefaultIcon

For each, change the last number from 0 to 1. So each key should look like this:

C:\Users\<<USERNAME>>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe,1

Then reload Explorer's icon cache by following these instructions.
