I notice there are multiple add ons for blocking flash, each with different features. Is there a comparison of them somewhere or can someone compare a few of them with merits and flaws?

I use Noscript and always have. There is no comparison.

If you want to block scripts, plugins, flash etc all at once, use NoScript.
If you just wanna block flash automatically, try Flashblock.
If you just want to block flash manually, try Flash Killer.
