and noticed it says I have 3 new messages? Not sure what to make of this, but a possible bug, or someone elses account?

Yeah, that's definitely a bug, it's been doing that to me for a while too.

IIRC correctly (as this pops up every now and then) - isn't this caused by the different ways in which those pages and the forum calculate the number of unread messages?

If you look in your message list, you'll probably see some messages with a different (i.e. unread) symbol. If you open/read those messages, it should go away.

we'll it always said 0 everywhere else, except that page...

Now that I actually look at my account, i seen 3 messages with an unread symbol, but they didn't say 3 new messages anywhere else...

IPB marks messages as read as soon as you visit your message center.
