Marshalus
You spend every waking hour reading or playing with the latest technology and then when you go to bed all you do is dream about it, right? We know that deep down you've got a burning desire to write for Neowin. You can't deny it. All your life you've waited for a chance to write for one of the fastest growing technology blogs on the Internet, right?

Here is your chance.

Neowin is looking to expand our news team and is looking for a few good writers. As a news writer, you'll be expected to:
  • Contribute to the news on a regular basis. (4+ postings per week)
  • This should be a given, but a passion for technology is required.
  • Be proficient in English. We're not asking for you to be the next William Shakespeare, but proper grammatical skills are a must. (Spell check is your friend.)
  • Be able to take criticism, both from our members and from editors.
  • Be able to work independently, but with some guidance from editors and other staffers.
You will be able to choose (for the most part) what you want to write about, as long as it is within the key areas of the site. These positions would be contributing original stories to the front page in any of the following key subjects:
  • Microsoft
  • Apple
  • Linux
  • Hardware
  • Gaming
  • Networking/Security
  • Gadgets & Smartphones
  • General Technology
  • Editorials & Opinion
  • Product Reviews
This is a paid position, freelance, per original article.

That said, if being a bigger part of Neowin is something you'd like to do, contributing directly to the content that feeds the site is an excellent way of doing so.

In your application, please include:
  • Your full name
  • Your forum name
  • Short bio/resume outlining any writing experience that you may have. (Note: Previous experience is NOT required, just talent and drive.)
  • Short example of your writing ability.
Interested candidates should e-mail editors@neowin.net.

Thanks,
Michael Stanclift (Marshalus)
Kyle
Good luck to all who apply.

If you applied before, please do apply again. Shane (Editor in Chief) was looking through the applications before but he has been swamped with his business expansion so he may have not been able to get back to you. I will personally be reviewing each application and let you know either way if we're interested. If you don't hear back from me it's because you got tagged as SPAM or something smile.gif

I may give this a go. smile.gif

Just wondering... Is somebody with an 80% warning level and a Mac forum restriction apply to write about Apple products? shiftyninja.gif
maplecookie
You can apply no matter what the restrictions or warnings are on your account. As long as you can write a non-biased article about Apple where you aren't constantly bashing Microsoft or something else...I'd say give it a go.

Never hurts to try guys.

Just to clarify - if someone is looking to do product reviews, does that mean that they need to supply the product themselves or is there a way to get samples directly from the individual companies?

No, you will not get free products for being a writer...Or else everyone would be applying.

It's up to the original writer, but it's not unheard of for anyone working for any news source to convince a company to supply a media unit, which will need to be returned after review.

I think the point is self-written articles as opposed to copy/paste.

Typically it's either something you've bought yourself or something you get from a company for a short period and then returned. To be very honest our review "department" is virtually non-existent, but it's something we are committed to doing. If you're wanting to write reviews a lot of work is going to be done by the writers in terms of securing things to review.

5-7+ original articles. Although you're always free to start using the submit to news desk to get your articles published in the Around the Web section.

It's not about the money that should drive you to write for Neowin it should be about the passion and desire to do something creative for the audiences of Neowin smile.gif
