http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1205489/I got a sneak preview in Toronto for this film, which doesn't hit most cities for a few weeks.
I got to start off in saying this movie contains extreme language, most of which is from Clint Eastwood's mouth, in the racist variety towards Asians. With that said, the film was absolutely brilliant in terms of story of a lone die-hard American being the last one left in his neighborhood over taken by Asian people. The character played by Eastwood starts off by disliking his new neighbors, who are Hmong (a culture). He then takes on the boy to do some chores after he attempts to steal some of his property, where Eastwood begins to grow an attachment to the young boy and teach him how to defend himself, and become a man.
I'll stop there and say anymore might ruin the film, but what a truly great film this was indeed! Everyone I went with to see the film really enjoyed it, where we all got a good laugh out of the film with the use of strong language. If you are a fan of Clint Eastwood, this appears to be his last film, determining from his slow, still movements made during the film, from which his age really shows.
Excellent film, with a very good story line to it all.

I was a little disappointed to be honest. It seemed to made on a real shoestring budget, not that I generally care, but the acting of the supporting cast seemed fairly brutal. Like most of the cast were picked from a high school drama class.
It certainly had its moments and at times felt more like a comedy than anything.

Maybe because those people really talk & act like that?
I thought it was one of Eastwood's best movie. I expected an
Unforgiven like shootout in the end, but it ended much better.

Saw it and loved it. Think probly one of Eastwood's best films too.

I really liked it. Eastwood had a great performance, but I think that the other actors and actresses didn't do nearly as good of a job and it showed.
Nevertheless, great movie. 8/10
Great Movie. The ending made me *almost* cry. Recommended to everyone I know.
9/10
Good movie, though the acting from the younger cast sucked.
It's a one man acting movie, Clint Eastwood.

in the scene where the kid is washing his car and and Clint is talking to his sister on the porch. If you look closely for a split second you can see the microphone boom come down from the top into the frame.

That sucks, but you can see what is coming roughly 5-10 minutes before it happens. Just be lucky he didn't ruin "Old Boy" for you, that ending you will never see coming

I actually went to see this movie thinking it was going to be stupid, whoa, was I in for a surprise. I have to say this is an amazing movie, the dialogue you can't help but chuckle at, and the drama that takes place, wow. Finally a good movie with some classic Eastwood acting. I'm not a movie critic so I'm sorry if I can't come up with the right words, just go see it!
9/10!

I went back to that scene 3 times I see no boom.
I thought the movie wasn't that great. The acting was very poor throughout. Why does he growl so much? Maybe 15-20 times, he just growls. Very awkward. The conversation between the sons at the mothers funeral felt so forced. So much quiet, strange conversations that have no place. Also, sloppy cuts between scenes, so random and out of place. I think the editing and directing was just odd. The only guy that felt natural in his part was the barber.
The scene at the bar when the preist and Clint are talking, was terrible, it felt like the young red head preist was reading lines just to read them. It was horrible.
Also, when Clint locks the kid in the basement, that bit of acting from the young kid was appaling. He was literally shaking his head around like in a Stooges episode almost. He was screaming and banging like a 10 year old in a closet in a Halloween movie.
The end was cool. I felt it was like, he's done enough killing, he's going to help this family, but without killing, he'll let the gang ruin their own lives by sacrificing his. The Wrestler 10/10
Milk 9/10
Slumdog Millionaire 8/10
Gran Torino 5/10
is how I see it.

I loved this movie. Some of Clint's lines crack me up, like where he has a gun pulled on someone and growls "shut your f***ing face!" I don't think the younger cast was bad at all, I thought they acted natural.

This was great. It goes to show Eastwood still has it. Sure some of the younger actors weren't marvellous, but to be honest I think that added to the simpleness of the story in a way. It was just a great story - no special effects or cgi - just a good old fashioned movie.

I think I had read somewhere that this movie was Thaos' actors first time acting. Not half bad, i'd say.
I rate it a 9/10, any movie that puts me to tears is a 9/10 or 10/10, the ending can be seen a mile away but it still just came in like a wrecking ball.

This movie was filmed right in my home town. There's supposedly a police chase shot on the main road two blocks away.
I can't wait to see it, mainly for this reason! I'm glad to hear it's being so well received already. This was a big deal for Michigan!

I suppose it could be a scene that was cut out. I know they closed down the road for a "police chase scene" of some sort.
I didn't stop hearing about this movie for months on end. It's pretty exciting; a lot of movies being filmed here lately. There will be another movie coming out soon, a Drew Barrymore movie called "Whip it!", which was actually partially shot where I work. It's very neat to be a part of it all.

Another 9/10 from me a really great film, only gripe was the poor acting by the young kid but they new they took a risk with him not coming from a an acting background.

Watched this over the weekend and I was disappointed. I think mainly because of only hearing good things about it from everyone. While I did enjoy the movie, I don't believe it should have been put up there next to Slumdog, Doubt and Milk. Acting was average for most of the cast (minus Eastwood) and I cannot say enough how much I hated everytime he "grunted".
+1 @ Bawk... I HATED that scene when he locked the kid in the basement, I thought it was so over the top it took away from the ending.
still 7/10 but I think the hype ruined most of it for me.
This film is awesome, truly breathtaking performance from Clint. He still has it after all.
Totally bad ass cinema. He practically reprises his Dirty Harry role, but that's what makes it so good.

I went into this expecting utter brilliance and came out disappointed. I am a huge movie nut and I also study film in college and I believe this is the sole reason why I have so many gripes with this movie.
The story is up first, my main complaint would be that it drags on into an absolute snore fest at some points! I'm no stranger to character development but Jesus this was taking it too far

a lot of scenes felt completely irrelevant and a 1:40+ min movie felt like a 3 hour movie. Clint Eastwood while his performance was one of the only redeeming factors of the film had absolutely appalling lines, after like the 30th grunt and growl I felt the sudden urge to drill out my ears.
Second is down right shambolic cinematography and editing as someone mentioned above, there were cuts and shots that were completely irrelevant to what was going on. That cannot be excused, it made the film feel like it was on a really low budget and just felt tacky.
The acting is also a major issue, I realise this is the first time most of these kids are acting in a movie so I will be more lenient but fact is they just did not perform well enough,
As mentioned above the scene when he gets locked into the basement was painful to watch, poor poor acting..Overall I personally do not think this movie was worthy of all the 9/10's however it did successfully invoke some emotions in me and did carry the plot well if a little over done. A movie that could have been great dragged down only by the lingering faults mentioned above and so the best I can say of it is that the movie was good.

Saw it the other day and enjoyed it. Clint still has it, but I echo the above comments about the boys acting and the basement scene. I actually cringed during that part because his acting was so bad. But overall it was a beautifully put together film.

Watched it again just to analyse it better and I disliked it even more. The acting sucked big time, with Clint beign the only one who did a decent jod. His character is well written and executed but the rest of the characters and the plot itself could've been handled a lot better.

I loved this movie, especially the end. I want to see it again now. I'd give it an 8 or 9 out of 10.
Hilarious, especially the lines delivered by a dry and stern Eastwood, and touching. Ending was great. The film really shouldn't have worked, but it does. This makes for a fascinating double-feature with Unforgiven I would think.
