I got vistaglazz installed with Vista 64bit sp1 but when I maximize the windows it isnt transparent on the taskbar or the top either. any ideas.

do you get any transparency at all?
try rightclick on dektop -> prefs
then window appereance and set the check on activate transparency
I got Vista x64 sp1 too, works fine for me

also it could be the visual style you are using. I had that problem. I was using a custom visual style that transparency when maximized did not work on
