Works on: is actually tested mostly on Vista (I'm Home Basic happy User), but should work on any .NET 2.0 capable Windows system like Windows7 or XP(which I test on from time to time)

As usual I inform of possible solutions to most common problems:
  • check if You have .NET 2.0 installed
  • run application with full administrator rights, remember to unblock it
  • try using in compatibility mode with XP or Vista
  • disabling themes for application might help too

I also would be very glad for bug reports and opinions smile.gif It really help me in with development. biggrin.gif

I tried it on Windows Vista, but couldn't get any effects to work. However that was about a week ago, and I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong.

Other than that, I think it's amazing with what it can do.

hmm and now we will try to do something with that, did You run through suggested most common problems fixes from the main post? Also remember that effects apply after closing settings menu, not instantly while checking

Can you stabilize your graphics effects instead of updating the app every week? Thanks.

  1. I don't like the form of your sentence - don't use modal "can" - I find it offensive, try using at last "could You please"
  2. Each update is bringing something new into core, and if you didn't notice since 8 to 10 version improvement is much more than amazing - not to mention that some further works aren't possible before applying given changes and updates (10 introduced new core architecture required for future versions)
  3. 10.2 is planned to offer new graphics engine for effects - it's not mystery that I'm working on few things at the same time, if I wake up in the middle of the night with some brilliant idea I just add it
  4. Upcoming 10.1 has already over 100+ updates, fixes and new features - and I'm constantly increasing that as above
  5. I think it's good thing that updates are released so often - it makes it always update and more outgoing to NV Users needs (already considered few suggestions... suggested politely ;])

Anyway, thanks for comment. smile.gif

Problem with those were already reported and most likely(personally I think more than that) are already fixed during code revision for upcoming 10.1.

and thanks for kind words - but surely 10.1 will... is much better wink.gif

Maybe you could try keeping the version numbers down a little, as I've really lost track of it now... There's nothing wrong with things like 8.3 if it's fixes only or some slight UI changes etc. No new features = no new version number?

Version count was switched from:
0.version and then eventually additional description like RC1, RC2 etc. or a1 a2 a3
to
main version.minor version + build

Before NVX main version changes took place usually when core was updated, which usually was connected with new effects, GUI change etc. But with NVX line - minor version is used for similar purpose, while build smaller changes are just left in build information. Moreover, often changes are invisible for User - example updating core, which actually should be like so in most cases: I mean it should be natural - invisible transition for User smile.gif

Anyway to cheer You up on that as NV10.1 is heading to be released:
-there is update in a core...or to be exact two cores(mirage and main core) as well
-there is new additional graphic engine
-there is completely new GUI - but this was necessary heart.gif
-there are new effects, and few were "updated" (rewritten etc.)
-there are "few" new features

still it doesn't make good coffee.gif but I'm working on that ;P

I tried it on Windows XP ... Doesn't work ... It didn't say it needs Vista (as I'm concluding from some of the posts) .... I tried all the effects and nothing works ... Its a good idea but I didn't really have the luck to give it a real test run

From the topic : "Nimi Visuals X - also works on Vista and Windows7..." That implies to me it works on Vista, Win7 and .... other versions. Perhaps clarification is in order. But i'm guessing it's Vista+ only wink.gif

for me, it doesn't work too. And I've tried it on Vista and Win7

Tested by me on my XP (Home Basic) notebook, and on W7 it was reported to do so.

Overall, most of problems usually is caused by lack of .NET 2.0 installed. Moreover, there is 10.1 07062009 version out already -it makes a difference...

It doesn't work on Windows 7 properly.

Not working:

Fluid Windows
Windows Kinetics
Jelly Windows
Window TitleBar Sparkle (was working in previous version)
Showcase
Windows Fadeing
Taskbar reflection
Aurora Fade
Window Edge warp

If these actually worked I think this would be a GREAT program biggrin.gif

Shokus
Could you make it portable? Meaning if it finds its user settings in the same folder as the executable, it would use those settings preferentially. It would help to show off your programs to my friends by having the executable and its settings together in a thumbdrive smile.gif

  • try running it in compatybility mode
  • check if You have at last IE 6.0 installed (but it should came along .NET 2.0 AFAIK, I mean control)
  • run in administrator mode

Still it's only 30% of all effects tongue.gif, but more seriously:
it seems that You are using some application that is Overcast and using Mirage core(~90% of mentioned Overcast frontend) - which means most likely, something is blocking those
  • some 3rd part application
  • not enough application rights to apply some effects

You can also try deleting old configuration file(for example: by removing AppData\Local if I remember correctly\Nimi) and or move Nimi to other directory. Reinstalling .NET 2.0 might help as well. That's are only ideas that I can came up with for a moment.

Yes, I can, actually it would be adding support for one new command line argument smile.gif

Meaning if it finds its user settings in the same folder as the executable

Such solution isn't rather possible(to much data for example from repositories etc.)

You got me at friends ;P

If after taking bath =^^.=, I find some free 10 minutes I could add it... *hate when Someone ask for some feature, I automatically start thinking on it, and willing to write it already ^-^'*

Released critical update + with requested feature... and few other changes

To use other Nimi directory use <nimi exe> Path (didn't tested but shall work from code smile.gif )
