I gave up with all the reg-hacks, none of them ever worked. Was directed towards (an apparently banned link - doh

) which, except for the occasional jitter, works fine.
Not much help there with the banned link. Sorry

Matroskasplitter works just fine. Google is your friend.
That or you could simply mux these nasty little files to
universally supported MPEG files which can be played back in any application. Honestly it boggles the mind what kind of nutter produces these files when the MPEG container can achieve the exact same thing while being universally supported on DVD Players, Consoles, Streamers, PMP's and even PDA Phones and pretty much any other device .

I'm not very familiar with different video types and the like. Do those support chapters?

I still recommend VLC player. Windows Media Player is too much of a bloat to me, and have, in the past, lagged some of my videos due to its bloatness. VLC is pretty simple.
That said, I recommend CCCP Codec package if you still want to use WMP.

Okay. Geez. I didn't see the word center give me a break. It's not like it's written in HUGE OBVIOUS FONT.
Ugh, Windows Media Center is even more of a bloat than windows media player. Still, CCCP should do the job regardless. I'm not sure how you can manage to tolerate that, but to each their own.

You can't directly compare WMP and WMC, they're serve different purposes

Thread title will catch my eyes when I click on new post. It's sometimes easyto mistaken windows media center for windows media player. When I click the thread, the first thing i'll read is the post, and then the rest of the thread. Anyway, no more derailing.

Running with 7 RTM + the latest 7 codec pack, and X64 components from Shark 007, MKV files play perfectly for me
I have the latest CCCP installed, .mkvs play just fine with WMC even with softsubs.
Audioboxer
Aug 1 2009, 00:32
Both of those codec packs contain a splitter, CCCP uses Haali. He doesn't need to install a codec pack, just the splitter.
Windows 7 has native codecs to play back H264 which will be the video codec inside the MKV file, Windows 7 however does not have a splitter to enable the use of the MKV container.

Get the gabest matroska x64 splitter and register it regsvr32.exe, u could even get the x64 ac3filter if you want, but the built in codecs should suffice.

Anyone got them working? I've followed various guides, and nothing has worked.
MKV playback is fully supported.
The Win7codecs package which I have created does not change or interfere with what Microsoft has going on concerning native codec support in Windows Media Player 12 and Media Center.
DXVA accelerated H264 playback is provided by the codec package for all other capable players.
The latest release contains a new Settings Application which enables the user to choose a different splitters 'on the fly' for specific filetypes. The application will also allow you to choose from 10 different speaker configurations from 'same as input' and all the way up to full 7.1 channel output....

Wow, seems like people go through more work than they need to.
<< warez >> Codec Pack x86 AND x64. Done. Only x64 is necessary for Media Center, but might as well install the x86 so the files play in Media Player as well.
Happily playing MKV files in Windows 7 x64 without issue.

Just MUX the garbage to MP4 with
MKV2VOB problem solved.

Just mux the crappy mkv's to something that works with out jumping though hoops. If your files are DXVA compliant I would recommend
TsMuxeR. I know that MP4 can support AC3 now but I have never had any luck getting that to work. On the few files I have tried it on if it did not crash MP4Box or Yamb the file would simply not play any audio.
After moving 500gig of mkv's to .m2ts I would never go back to the mkv format again. The best part is that Windows 7 has zero added codec's installed and all my audio and video play without problems.
That works too but Try MKV2VOB next time.
The freeware encoders tend to suck , Premier can create the files directly.
