This button... is there some way of moving it? Can it be placed at the bottom of the sidebar? Can it be hidden without hiding the whole sidebar?

I don't normally bump my own posts, but surely this is possible somehow?

there's so many gadgets in the Gallery, choose the better one, I dont see any of my gadgets have these weird buttons

No, it's not a gadget, it's the button at the top of the sidebar. The "+" opens the gadgets window, so you can select another one, and the two arrows allow you to scroll the sidebar left and right....


Anyway, I found the answer. Drag the gadgets off the sidebar, then right-click on the "+" and select "Close". This closes the sidebar, but leaves the gadgets on the desktop.
