Regardless whether you're using an official client or a third-party IM client like Adium/Miranda/Pidgin/Trillian:
Which messaging protocol do you use the most?

Multiplayer Notepad.
Half the people I know use MSN, trying to get them to use Jabber but that's hard
I use the Windows Live Messenger service mainly, but also the Facebook Chat protocol (through Digsby), and IRC sometimes. Windows Live Messenger the most though

For me it's multiplayer notepad first, then WLM, then Yahoo.

WLM before Multiplayer Notepad.

I have used WLM for roughly 6 years. But now I'm moving to Skype. Calls are easier

WLM protocol. WLM+Messenger Plus though video calling quality sucks and features are absent (no simultaneous video calls, no many to many calling).

What if you are using wlm through bitlbee?
Then you're still using the WLM protocol

I'm a WLM user mainly.

I think it depends on the region.
I use wlm and irc mostly.

no your just using your irc client to connect to the wlm protocol.
WLM, but ONLY because nobody uses Google Talk. I try to avoid Facebook IM but sometimes its just easier grabbing someone on there for a quick chat.

Digsby for AIM, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger and Facebook Chat with a Windows 7 skin.

...or BeejiveIM on my iPhone.
I use Digsby for Desktop and usually some online msn for the iphone

WLM + A-Patch. I sometimes use Facebook chat, but I guess that doesn't count as an IM protocol.

I don't know its becoming as common as one, it's now part of digsby (and pidgin if you get the plugin)

i use WLM. and sometimes yahoo for overseas.
WLM primarily, Facebook comes second, both have between 10 and 20 people online at any given time. I have less than 10 people in my contact list combined for every other service, and most of them I also have on WLM.
Only service I'd really consider otherwise is Skype, but I don't like how it hijacks volume control. Having it disable mute when I just want to use it for text chat in a library is a huge pain in the ass.

I just started using Trillian Astra.
It's not all that bad.

Since getting Gmail I just use the integrated chat since I always have Gmail open in a tab and it is integrated into the messaging app on my Pre so the chats from a person show up in the same thread as their texts.
