man I hate the Yankees....baseball will continue to suck IMHO until there is some kind of salary cap like the NFL and NBA

So, tell me if the most money buys the championships, why was 2000 the last time they won it? Ah yes, another year of sour grapes because they have money to spend. Hilarious.

What is this thing you call Ballgame?! Subject needs tidying up a bit.

You forgot the NHL. They have a salary cap as well.

Whoodeedoo.

Since when did the world consist of just the US and Toronto?

Too bad the Yankees didnt win the championship, money won it. When you spend $250 million on 3 players it kinda leaves you questioning...

Philly deserved the repeat moreso than the Yankee's 27th.

I am a fan of baseball, I love the game. I'm happy for the Yankees, I cheared for them the whole series. Now It seems the issue is no salary cap in baseball? So what? They obveously have the money and they are going to spend it where they see fit. The Yankees salary was I think close to or over $200 million ... I don't think there should be a cap. Quite frankly the Yankees aren't the only team that can build a stacked team, they just seem to be the only franchise that can, so everyone gives them crap for it. Go Yankees!!

110% Agreed.
And I live in NJ, where everyone and their mother is almost a Yankees fan.

While this is true that they have not won since 2000, you can basically blame that on poor decisions and choices in regards to the players they picked up. There is absolutely no way at all you can say that do not have a clear advantage over other teams because of what they can spend.

Baseball Team Payrolls 2008-2009

The Yankees spend 52,075,202 dollars more than the next closest team, which is the Mets.

If you look at the team that spends the least amount of money, the Yankess spend 164,615,189 MORE than they do. 164 MILLION. That is not an advantage?

So while I agree, money does not equate to an instantly great team as we are talking about humans here and humans can indeed be flawed, and management can indeed make poor decisions about how they spend their money, it without a doubt provides an advantage, no doubt in my mind about that.

So people can say it is not a factor all they want, until every team is playing with the same amount of money and their is indeed a cap put in place, I will never, ever feel that they do not have an advantage because they can and are willing to spend untold amounts of money.

Wow, really? Money didn't win anything. Money bought the talent that won the world series. It seems the only argument against the Yankees is money, not over talent. Have you even watched a Yankees game? They are amazing, and I for one respect their decisions when spending money on huge deals. It's just the way it is.. please let this tried old argument go.

so because you invested correctly and have the money to spend you arent deserving and money only won it? i hate when people pull the money card on the yanks and im not even a yanks fan. How about you tell your favorite teams GM to step his money game up?

This is a true statement.. let the money issue go people. It's old, tired, and has nothing to do with it. They have it, so what if they spend it?

Considering the best players in the world, including Asia and Latin America....
majortom1981
Do you want to know why the yankies have the money to spend? Its because yankees fans spend a ton on merchandise always go to games. Things like that. The yankees franchise makes a ton of money from its fans. IF other teams fans did the same as yankees fans they would have the same amount of money to spend.
Growled
Way to go Yankees. I'm not a fan but they are clearly the best team this year.

Quick question: The team that spent the least... how much of that was Yankee money? Because they pay millions to teams like Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Tampa Bay, which they then pocket -- not the Yankees fault.

Not only that, but 20% of MLB licensed gear is Yankees, money that is split evenly among the teams.

Paraphrasing Buster Olney from ESPN, if the Yankees were mediocre and didn't have that payroll, some of these other teams would collapse.

Not only that, but as recently as 2007, the Yankees lost $47 million (Source: http://www.nysun.com/sports/yankees-top-fo...illions/74853/). I think any sports team fan would love to have an owernship that would shell out for the best players they can get in hopes of winning, as opposed to a team that consistently loses and pockets the money, like Pittsburgh (Source: http://www.xomba.com/pittsburgh_pirates_lu...roken_promises)

I think the real issue here is that baseball is boring. laugh.gif Kidding. Just my opinion.

In 2002, the Yankees spent $17 million more in payroll than any other team.

In 2003, the Yankees spent $35 million more in payroll than any other team.

In 2004, the Yankees spent $57 million more in payroll than any other team. I mean, it's ridiculous from the start but this is pure absurdity. Basically, this is like the Yankees saying: "OK, let's spend exactly as much as the second-highest payroll in baseball. OK, we're spending exactly as much. And now ... let's add the Oakland A's. No, I mean let's add their whole team, the whole payroll, add it on top and let's play some ball!"

In 2005, the Yankees spent $85 million more than any other team. Not a misprint. Eight five.

In 2006, the Yankees spent $74 million more than any other team.

In 2007, the Yankees spent $40 million more than any other team -- cutbacks, you know.

In 2008, the Yankees spent $72 million more than any other team.

In 2009, the Yankees spent $52 million more than any other team.

for most teams spending that much money isnt an option since they simply cant generate the amount of revenue the Yanks do because of the small markets they play in

No, the money card as you say are not usually from the Red Sox fans. The Red Sox bought a couple rings themselves over the past few years. The Yankees just joined them as another non legit team carrying an asterisk this decade.

Proof positive that Yankees baseball can in fact bring peace to our troubled world.

Here is a picture of Sean Hannity

Here is a picture of the Yankees celebrating -- just to the left of the WS logo, you see a man in a hat; that is Rudy Giuliani.
