HawkMan Posted May 29, 2011 Share Posted May 29, 2011 Let's face it, Apple users are going to say widgets are unnecessary, and some might say that if Apple does introduce them, they'll do it better and it'll be useful to the people who wants to use them, which of course is not them. and when Apple does make them, they will go all out on how awesome widgets are on iOS :) I don't know if Apple will add them, but I would suspect they will, they're feeling the competition, and people want easy informative widgets with the information right there. Android has it, WP7 has it built in even better, and in a way that doesn't add battery eating costs. Apple needs to eventually add them to compete. If this does come at WWDC as part of iOS5 it is most likely just something to keep us happy to the iPhone 5 comes out, if it doesn't come out at WWDC. Guess they come be handy for news apps and the likes of twitter apps, so I don't have to unlock my phone everytime I want to see the latest updates. This won't happen, they'll just be called widgets, why? That's what they're called on the Dashboard. To be honest, they don't need to introduce them, they can if they really want to, but they're not a crucial feature, especially not over a redesigned and improved notification system. I don't use them in OS X, I find them rather pointless. But I might find myself using them for iOS. Who knows if they will be in iOS 5... the only thing that is more-or-less safe to bet money on is a new notifications system. I don't think Apple needs widgets in iOS 5 to keep selling i-hardware. I honestly have never used it and said to myself more then once "I wish I had a widget" and the one and only thing that made me say that was the weather. Then again I just do not really utilize them on any of my desktops or my Droid phone, minus the weather one on my Droid, so I am just not a big widget user. The widgets thing is nice, live tiles is good (its a middle ground between widgets and the iOS notifications or at least it feels that way) even though I am not happy about my WP7 I am happy I offloaded my iPhone as I was becoming bored.
