Apple Launches iWork Office Suite for iPhone and iPod Touch

Apple today announced that its iWork suite of applications for the iPad has been updated to include universal binaries now capable of running on the smaller screen of the iPhone and iPod touch.

"Now you can use Keynote, Pages and Numbers on iPhone and iPod touch to create amazing presentations, documents and spreadsheets right in the palm of your hand," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "The incredible Retina display, revolutionary Multi-Touch interface and our powerful software make it easy to create, edit, organize and share all of your documents from iPhone 4 or iPod touch."

The three iWork applications for iOS (Keynote, Pages, and Numbers) are available individually via the App Store and are priced at $9.99 apiece. Besides the Universal upgrade, Apple has also added a few new features to the apps:

Keynote

? Keynote Remote app (sold separately on the App Store) to control your presentation from another iPhone or iPod touch.

? New document manager to easily sort your documents and organize them into folders.

Numbers

? New document manager to easily sort your documents and organize them into folders.

? Improved usability including Smart Zoom for viewing and editing data.

Pages

? New document manager to easily sort your documents and organize them into folders.

? Ability to change font style and size directly from the ruler when editing text.

? Smart Zoom for viewing and editing data.

Several hints nearly a year ago had indicated that Apple was working on a version of iWork for the smaller screen, but any rumors of a launch have been scant since that time.

They should came as a pack for $9.99, not each one for that price. Too expensive. There are other alternatives which are better, and can do all for a few more dollars.

What? It's a universal app...

That does not mean anything. It is still expensive buying each one at that price.

As opposed to US$79 for Apple iWork for the Mac and US$100+ for Microsoft Office Home? Really? These apps on an iPad work great! They should work just as well on an iPhone (buy for one, use for both, BTW). You can't seriously be haggling for a lower price.

I second that.

I was dieing to get hold of it, been waiting for it forever, now it's released at a joke of a price...

Such a shame... Well... added them to AppTicker Push, when they get cheaper, I'm the first to buy! :)

@Menge:

This is a free market, of cause we can!

Patience and it get's cheaper... Apps almost always drop the price for at least a short period of time sooner or later.

AppTicker even tells me that those three candidates in question have been free once before... Can anyone confirm?

I'm ready to believe cheaper, but free, really? Apple premium apps?

You are talking about a boxed full version for OSX, not a crappy, underpowered version for mobile devices.

Have you used this? I have on an iPad.

It's 80% of the OS X version right there! That's my point. This might be small, but it's in no way crippled in the bad sense of the word. It is a great port of the OS X iWork!

that's not how the image above is showing it

Errr... yes? It's clearly written below the pricetag. That + and "This app is designed for both iPhone and iPad".

It's not too expensive. It's $10... And you can use it on your iPad (which is 80% like iWork for Mac) AND on your iPhone.

It's two packs of smokes or a disgusting McDonalds-Menu...

You have to PAY to use iWorks on an iPhone/iPad/Touch?

Yowsers. Microsoft includes Office Mobile free of charge on ALL their Win 2002 to WP7 devices.

But those are no Tablets. This one here is available for iPhone since a few days but was there for iPad for quite a while now.

Office Mobile is a stripped down version for smartphones and not a full blown client like iWorks for iPad, which really is impressively complete and a pleasure to work with.

Infact, the only news here is that the App has gone universial... But that's about it. Like the guy before me said: If you have both, an iPad and an iPhone it's a great deal. And I would say it's mainly aimed towards those folks. If not, it's not exactly cheap but it's only $9, which is anything but a ripoff. It's a reasonable price for a quality piece of software and if you need it, you won't have a problem paying that price. I did not hear anyone complain about OmniFocus or Things, which are, in essence, todo-lists on speed... OmniFocus for iPhone is 15.99?, for iPad it's 31.99? (not universal, so you would need to buy BOTH if you own an iPhone and an iPad) and Things is 7.99? for iPhone and 15.99? for iPad (also, not universal, so you would also have to buy both). But for the folks that need it, that price is alright. So is it a ripoff? No. Because noone forces you to buy it. If you need it, it's well worth the pricetag. If not, propably not but then you don't have to buy it either.
