I stole it off eBay/Craigslist!

In this thread, share some of the best deals you've gotten off eBay or Craigslist. it may have been such a good deal you felt like you practically stole it.

Ebay
September 2008: Used Nintendo DS Game System - $62.97
Still works to this day

June 2009 : Xbox 360 with a dvd drive read error - $39.44.
When it arrived I took it appart and cleaned the laser and have been using it ever since.

June 2009: Xbox 360 60GB hard drive - $50.00
I think that was a good deal at the time

May 2010: Banned Xbox 360 console - $50.00
I was going to jtag it with the help of a mod chip, but I forgot to check the firmware version.

9/22/2013 : Original PS3 20 GB Cech-B01 Backwards-Compatible blu-ray drive won't read disc (possible easy fix) Ps3 firmware 3.01 : $90.00 Free shipping.

Craigslist

Sometime in 2010 : 1 Fat PSP with 2 games and a 4gb memory card - $60.00

Last Saturday: 2 Sega Dreamcasts and a Ps1 - $40.00
The dreamcast works great

10/1/2013

had a customer give me a 27 inch i7 16GB Mid 2011 iMac for what ever I told him I would give him for it. I said $200. So I got that for $200

I then got a 24 inch HP Touchscreen 610 i5 6GB for just erasing the hard drive for this same customer.

I don't remember what I've bought since it was awhile ago.

2010 - Thunderform Sub Box + 2x10" subs for $125 ($400 box with subs)

Xbox 360 + 120GB HD - $125 - I'd say it was a good deal, since I sold mine for $350 earlier that week.

Craigslist

2007 15" MBP sealed in the box for $1500 (sold back for $1800)

Kijiji

2010 15" MBP around $1700 if I remember (sold back for $2000)

2010 13" MBA with 4GB of ram (in my sig) $1000

The best "deals" I have gotten have mostly been from selling though. I'll get an Apple computer with student discount and later sell it for the same price I paid just before a revision lol

I used to get a lot of great stuff practically free by buying "broken" products on ebay which turned out to be a simple fix (or the seller didn't even know how to work it). So many people watch eBay now that it's harder to find nice deals like that, but now and then you get lucky.

Oh and I sold my copy of Windows Me on eBay for $50 more than I gave for it at the store after using it for half a year and hating it.

Ya, I would say for anything to be a steal, you would have to nab it for at least 1/2 the retail price. You just have to find a really stupid seller that is selling with a good raiting, that is selling something way to cheap.

Yep Great way to get stuff dirt cheap.

How about local garage sales and public auctions? In the past year or so, I've gotten many great deals on tech-related items.

Garage sales:

  • PlayStation 2 - Had a broken disk drive and improperly read disks. Cracked open the console, and adjusted the laser, and it now works fine - $5
  • Complete desktop PC - Celeron 400 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 6 GB HDD, XP Pro - $1
  • D-Link 802.11b/g wireless router - $0.50
  • HP iPAQ Pocket PC - Wouldn't boot at first, but did a few hard resets and got it working - $15

Public auctions:

  • Toshiba HD-DVD Player - $6
  • Huge lot of computers and accessories - PCs: Gateway Pentium 4 1.6 GHz, 384 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD, XP Pro; Dell Pentium III 800 MHz, 192 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD, 2000 Pro - Accessories: Two CRT monitors, two mice, two keyboards, a cable modem, a ton of older software - $5

I say I've made out pretty wall thus far. The general public who sells these things at their sales don't really know much, it seems.

not really ebay/cl, but one day after going to the grocery store,i noticed beside the dumpster bins a tv on the side, with a piece of paper that says free, not working. it was a 55" panasonic. took it home, opened her up,and replaced the hdmi chip that i got for 20 cents from hkinventory.com.

A few years ago I got a free YLOD 60gb backwards-compatible PS3 on Kijiji.  Ad stated if you can come over, open the system, and take out the disc that was stuck in it, it was yours for free along with a controller.  Went over, took out the disc, fixed the YLOD later, used the system for about a year until it broke again, then I just replaced it with a new Slim.  Was definitely worth it for $0, not to mention a great learning experience on how to fix them!

Forgot to mention when I got to the guy's place, I realized I had actually been to this person's house before with a friend about a year before.  Small world I guess. :P
