+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted June 24, 2011 Subscriber² Share Posted June 24, 2011 iOS 5 Beta 2 ready for download iOS 5 beta 2 is now available for download from Apple's developer site. If you are a paid ($99/year) dev, you can sign in with your developer credentials to gain access to this beta. The beta is, as always, released under the terms of Apple's NDA. For that reason, enhancements, APIs and features are not listed within this post. TUAW's iOS 5 coverage -- researched and written by our non-NDA staffers -- is available here. chrispinto
I've been running b2 of iOS5 and playing around with it now for about 2 hours on my iPhone 4 (UDID Dev Registered). Much more stable than b1 (obviously) and a hell of a lot smoother in use. Shaping up to be a good release. Provide over the next 2 days iOS5b2 continues to perform solidly, it'll remain my default iOS and i won't bother going back to 4.3.3 this time. Sync over wifi works a treat. Doesn't even need to be plugged into a power source. I've been transferring music over wifi from my MBP to my iPhone for the last hour (novelty is beginning to wear off though). Facetime is a little flaky. Sometimes connects but other times tells me one end or the other is "busy". Not a huge issue for me, I rarely use Facetime. Notification centre is much improved in terms of drag down/pop back up. iCloud now has the silver icon in settings.app instead of the purple one in b1. You can download iOS5b2 and iTunes 10.5b2 from my server located HERE. This is not in support of piracy. You will of course need to be UDID registered with Apple Dev Center to get use out of these downloads.

KeR
I tried the restore from iCloud feature, and it actually worked quiet well...took about 10 min all in all.
cbosdell
Only problem I have noticed so far is that iheartradio crashes when I try to launch it. All my other apps seem more or less compatiable with iOS 5 now and all the bugs I noticed with Beta 1 appear to be fixed.

Linkin Park
The only way to install this is on a mac or Virtual machine right? I'm on a developer account, but I'm thinking of waiting for the later beta builds, seeing as how this is still in the early stages and It'll be on my one and only iPhone 4.

Second, install iOS 5 beta 2.. it works fine :) There is some slight crashing and lagging between the pages and search function, but that should be corrected soon enough. I have it running on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2, no major issues so far.

PyX
I haven?t tried beta 1, but so far : - I can?t open Safari - I can?t play YouTube videos - Wireless sync still has a bunch of issues, but I guess it?s okay for its first appearance in a beta. - In Maps, the trajectory has some funny graphics, if they tried to overhaul it, it?s a failure? and while we?re at it, 3D maps would be awesome :D - The new notifications system rocks and I haven?t really encountered bugs on it. I was using LockInfo before, so I was pretty used to it, but LockInfo had a terrible Settings UI. This one works perfectly. - It would be good to have smileys and faces next to your contacts in Messages, like biteSMS. I don?t know why they?re not doing that, but oh well. - The iPod application is now split up in Music and Videos apps, like on the iPod Touch. Is this just temporary for the development and then they will merge them together? I always preferred the icon of the iPod app, I had one back then and I feel vintage with it :p All in all, the new stuff seems so well integrated into the OS that I don?t really see it? or maybe there isn?t so much new stuff. It looked more impressive than that in the Keynote, but it?ll still be a great release in September.
PyX
Okay, after trying Beta 3 and 4, a lot of my issues (Safari and Youtube crashing, random crashes) are related to jail breaking my device, so not a big deal. I guess it?s my fault.
alexalex
Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 4 With RedSn0w Dev-Team blog, ?Update #4: In conjunction with iOS5 beta4 being released to iOS developers, redsn0w 0.9.8b4 is now available for jailbreak app developers (point the b4 redsn0w at the b4 IPSW). Remember, it?s a tethered jailbreak right now so you?ll need to use redsn0w to boot into a jailbroken state at each power cycle. NOTE: It appears that by design, the OTA update that became available starting with iOS 5 beta4 will *not* be automatically applied to jailbroken devices. That?s a relief to those who don?t want to lose their jailbreak via OTA pushes. If you?re jailbroken, you?ll need to use the standard iTunes method to get to iOS 5 beta4.?... http://www.idownloadblog.com/2011/07/23/jailbreak-ios-5-beta-4-redsn0w/
