Play My Code

Recommended Posts

For the last 6 to 9 months I've been building my own browser based game IDE/platform/portal, called Play My Code. It's still in alpha, but I'd be interested in getting more feedback for it.

We supply an IDE for building browser games, that runs within the browser, allowing you to build and publish your game entirely online. The idea is to abstract away all of the issues with building browser games so you can write as little boiler plate code as needed. Games run on our platform, which is powered by HTML5 and JavaScript, and are written in our own Ruby-like language called Quby. The language compiles and runs on the fly as pure JavaScript, which minimizes the overhead. Published games can also be embedded on your website or blogs for others to play, which runs within a supplied player to try to make the experience as nice as possible. We also use our own language to sandbox peoples code, for example you couldn't embed Java/Flash/Silverlight/WebGL content in the background with the aim to take advantage of a security hole, which allows you to trust other people's games when embedding them.

All of this is provided for free.

We've had several people building games with it already, and some of these include: a raycaster demo that I built, a golf game, a kinda rhythm action game, a ball bouncing game (also on the iPhone), and lots more.

You can also edit (but it's read only) other peoples games, including those above, to allow you to see how they were built. We also have a simple hello world style program here that you can play with.

I'd be very interested in hearing people's feedback on this, including any issues or problems you might have, or things you think are missing from my idea.

Can't say I'm a fan of the pink...there are less harsh colours you could have chosen. However it does pop and stick in the mind.

PLEASE put control descriptions on the game pages..

Some of the games are very confusing to start off with.

Some not so much >.>

Sure, I think developers should definitely be able to have some descriptions. We will definitely add this at some point.

What I'd really like to get some feedback on however is the game building side of the site; the IDE, asset manager, the language, api, building a game, etc. Has anyone tried out our IDE? What do people think?

Hmm, www.playmycode.com isn't loading right now.

The computers that run www.playmycode.com are having some trouble. Usually this is just a temporary problem, so you might want to try again in a few minutes.
