convince me to get an iphone!

Recommended Posts

getting tired of android and the horrid battery life not to mention my 4g on my thunderbolt is wonky as hell. i have an opportunity to trade my phone for a newer verizon iphone 16gb model. do you guys think i would regret doing this?

hows the volume overall on the iphone? is google voice supported for visual voicemail? also i assume there is plenty of themes out there to keep me busy as i will be jail breaking.

i just wanted some opinions here before i make up my mind.

This is probably something that you should try out in store.

I don't think so. But you can just use the GV Mobile app, which has its own voicemail function.

Plenty. MacThemes has quite a few.

Nope, the iPhone 4 is a really good smartphone. But you may regret not waiting like evo_spook said.

There are so many good phones on the market today, do you absolutely want an iPhone?

I would take a look at some of the others out there, maybe visit a local phone shop if possible. Maybe read some reviews?

If you are set on an iPhone then still give it a try if you can first, I would recommend this to anyone considering a new phone of any type. Until you have held one you don't really know what you are going to get

You need to be convinced? Do you home work, search around the web and get the phone that is right for you.

Maybe your current phone is crap, another Android phone could be much better. Unless you hate Android and prefer a more single source approach like the iPhone/iTune Apps Store.

Need to look at it objectively.

1st, there is not "4g" iphone at the moment. The iphone "4" is still 3g based.

That aside, there's pro's and cons.

Apple typically stops updating older versions of devices once it's two model's out of date (ex right now iPhone 3gs and 4 are only getting updates)

Apple store is tightly controlled (good and bad), because of this there higher quality apps, but more restrictions.

Another example, I purchased Robot Unicorn Attack Christmas Edition, but can no longer re-download due to it now not currently offered in the United States (was when I purchased it).

You have to hunt for applicaitons you've already purchased to re-download, where in andriod market place they show up under my apps instantly.

But since Apple controls the hardware and software (vs Google making the software, then customized by the cell phone maker) It tends to have a faster / better battery life / consisted interface.

Another route, voiding warranty is rooting and installing custom rom for your phone, cyangen mod would be good to look if they support your phone.

I've been using the (beta) Cyangen Mod 8 for my Samsung Vibrant and now it's faster, better battery life and I have FULL control of what apps are on it. However, the GPS is not working (issues specific to Vibrant and Cyangen hence why it's still beta for the vibrant). Cyangen mod on my wife's Nexus One has been flawless.

You have to jailbreak the iphone in order to do themes, default, all you can do is change the background.

Convince you?

If you get an iphone, i will give you a WILL SMITH poster for FREE!

Iphone is pretty and all, but if you're leaving android for it, you'll notice almost instantly how closed off it is, and how complicated it is to do some simple things that you'd easily do on an android device.

Jailbreaking seems to be getting more annoying with each month. Apple keeps patching it, and then you have to wait for a non tethered jail break.

People keep sayin wait for iphone 5, but they were sayin that last year, who knows when the iphone 5 will be released.

you obviously want control over your device, so i'd suggest just sticking with android. the iphone will get old, and you'll probably get tired of it being so closed off as i did.

This. +1

Is this (see below) enough to convince you to go with an iPhone?

1.Stock or custom rom?

2.Factory reset? This is clearly a software issue.

Even going into each application in settings and clearing cache+data of that app can solve such issues. In the event that those two ideas don't work just reflash the phone.

Hardware and software combinations often have these issue eg, windows, linux, mac, your router, other cell phones, your game pad controller etc.

In other words your post didn't indicate anything of merit.

That is the stock ROM, as it came. Nothing has been altered. Android apps are garbage. Plain and simple. I have an iPhone as well and I NEVER have this issues on the iPhone...ever.

  • 2 weeks later...

Convince you? Why? Unless we own a majority stake in Apple what is in it for us to ensure you buy one phone over the other?

Go use the devices locally and make up your own mind.

Get an iPhone (wait for iPhone 5 though...even if you just want a 4, because prices will drop with 5 is out)! My girlfriend has an EVO Android phone and she really like is. There are so many great phones on the market right now the competition is just great.

Go to the store and check out the handsets and figure out what works for you. People hating in either direction are just hating. Android and iOS are both mature and good platforms to go with right now. WP7 is almost there, and the new mango phones will probably be good.

My thoughts on the platforms:

iOS - Strong game and app selection. Customizability is lacking.

Android - Large selection of apps. Good customization options. Some handset quality control is low (so don't just think Android phone = good. Each one has its own reviews that should be looked at before making a purchasing decision). Inconsistent UIs.

I deal with the same crap on my Evo 4G and I'm also fed up with it. Battery life is good cause I turned off (always on mobile data" (this should work on the Thunderbolt too). I've been playing around on my WP7 based HTC HD2 (modified to run windows phone 7) It's a better user experience for me and I'll probably ditch Android this time around. (new phone in November) iPhone is nice, but WP7 has live integration and with Windows 8 pushing Metro apps... I'm gonna take the plunge and play with WP7.

ditch freaking verizon. Switch to Tmobile. get a Galaxy II s and your problems will be solved.. $99.98 for unlimited talk text and data for 2 lines cant be beat by AT&T, Verizon and sprint. the AT&T/Tmobile merge isnt gonna go through so i wont worry about that
