There's no way Apple (or anyone) would introduce a phone as their newest model then introduce the next one soon after. The bad press you'd get from everyone who just signed a two year deal or whatever with the first one would kill your credibility instantly.

The iPhone 4S is the iPhone 5, deal with it.

iPhone 4s - iPhone 5

iPhone ? - iPhone 6

Get it? By releasing the iPhone 4s, they did release the iPhone 5. Mystery solved.
