Domestic Politics is reserved for political discussion relevant to a single nation (e.g. elections). I would recommend that two digit country codes be used as tags to indicate a topic that is not based on [US] politics. Make sure to use the two digit country code as the first tag and then choose "Use as prefix".

Real World Issues is reserved for polarized discussions around universal themes (e.g. religion) and for any discussions that affect two or more nations (e.g. terrorism).

The debates in both of these areas will get polarized but ensure that your comments do not get personal. You may disagree with the opinions of your fellow members and you are free to share your own opinions so long as you follow the Community Rules.

Do not bait other members into responding with personal attacks. Posts, avatars and signatures that contain negative political ads (or other inflammatory images) will be considered flame-bait as well. Do your best to stay on topic and please be respectful of other members at all times.

Reminder: Public Discussions of Moderation is Not Allowed

This is a site-wide rule but it applies particularly well to Real World Issues and Domestic Politics.

Occasionally we are forced to clean threads to eliminate banter that would surely otherwise lead to flame-bait or flame-response (personal attack) warnings. We do this for your benefit and to make Neowin more inviting to non-regulars who have not yet had the opportunity to develop alligator thick skin. We also clean or split threads to help keep them on topic.

If this has happened to you then remember that IPB does not automatically notify members when their posts have been deleted. To compensate for this, the moderator will usually leave a [Thread Cleaned]-type of message to give some notice to the thread participants. If you think that your post has been removed in error then privately contact the moderator that left the notice or privately contact a Supervisor. Please keep in mind that when we clean a thread we often remove all messages that directly or indirectly relate to the original problem or else the thread becomes very difficult to follow. We do keep records of what was deleted.

So, under no circumstances should you publicly complain about moderation. This will help keep the conversations focused for everyone's enjoyment.

Flame-Bait posts (and general trolling)

That's it, I'm sick of it. All of it. Both sides and everyone in between. Stop the flame-bait comments in here. We have more RWI staff than we have had in a while and I have instructed them to look out for the little annoying comments that raise the blood pressure and lead to flames, warnings and general mayhem.

Examples:
RepubliFUD
DemoCRAP
Obamabots
Faux News (for Fox News)
Failin' Palin
Tea Baggers
Liebrals
(there's probably 100 more from the left and from the right)

I'm going to draw a line in the sand. You can whine about people being liberals or neocons but don't start inventing words just to annoy other people.

I don't think it should be necessary to raise people's warning levels for these types of incidents but, during this new crackdown, expect warning level increases to go out from this point forward without any advanced warning.

We need to have more decorum here so that this section is not an embarrassment to the rest of the site. This is a political subsection of a technical and/or general interest forum. RWI doesn't need to be here.

Normally you guys do a good job of exchanging viewpoints but it does get sloppy every once in a while. Let's all pitch in to clean it up in here.
Remember too that images can act as flame-bait much the same way as text can.

Also, please be aware that we cannot read every thread every day. If you see something that doesn't belong then please report the thread and we'll get it cleaned up as soon as we can.
