On an iPhone, can you have different Text Message sounds per contact?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about getting an iPhone 4s and one thing I'm wondering is if it's possible to have different Text message sounds based on the number or address it's coming from

example

When people send me a text message it plays ______ this sound, and when my voice mail server from xyz@test.com sends me a text message it plays a totally different sound? I've always wanted that feature and wondered if the phone 4s had it.

Yes; however, you can't assign custom text tones. I'm fairly sure you'll need to jailbreak your iPhone 4S in order to do that.

Sure you can. iOS 5 added custom text tones. Actually, you can set custom tones for just about any notification sound that the OS makes.

Can you really not add your own tones?

Good thing you corrected me! I guess you can't do it in previous versions of iOS. I had a friend with an iPhone 4 that complained about it.

You can.

You can. iOS 5 added the ability to choose custom tones, and it lets you set custom text tones on individual contacts.

Yea. :p That was a pretty common complaint. Glad they finally addressed it.

Thanks everyone. I'm really thinking about getting an iPhone 4s. the problem is I've been trying to justify getting one. I'm just having a really hard time justifying it. Although it is deductible, so there is that!
