DeadEndAccount
Is there a way to somehow move my emails from my Hotmail account to my iCloud account (I know I can forward each message but that would take too long and I'll lose the original information, it will show all the messages as sent by me). You could download them using pop3, copy them into a folder onto your desktop, hook up iCloud on imap then copy them back? I've never tried it before but it sounds like a plausible solution. CPressland
The above method will work, but it'll take a LONG time and gobble up a huge about of Bandwidth. I just had to do the exact same with a Client, took two days on his old connection.
Japlabot
Hotmail supports ActiveSync (Microsoft Exchange) connection to the iOS, so the question is WHY? There is no benefit to iCloud if you are already running a platform like Hotmail or Gmail that already offers equivalent functionality plus more without the hassle of changing email addresses. Just use iCloud for all it's other features... Mail/Calendar/Contacts is not it's strong point, if anything it is vastly inferior with it's IMAP connectivity instead of ActiveSync which means that it does not support PUSH to your iOS device. You could set up the Hotmail POP3 account and the iCloud account side by side in Mail. Then it's just a drag and drop from Hotmail to iCloud. The process might take a while, but at least it's effortless.

Roger H. Veteran Posted October 18, 2011 Veteran Share Posted October 18, 2011 You have 2 options I guess (granted i haven't used iCloud so i can't say for sure). 1 - Hook up Outlook via POP3 or WebDAV and download all your mail to Outlook then when you connect it to icloud it would see all your data in Outlook and sync it back to the cloud. This keeps all your forwards/replies stamps intact as well. 2 - With other services you can go to the web interface of the new service and point to the old servers POP3 address or manually upload your PST file. Option one as you said would use up tons of data so check if option 2 is available on iCloud.
Shadrack
I think the IMAP solution is probably the best option. iCloud's Mail web UI is much nicer than Hotmail's IMO. But you wouldn't be able to send email with a From: @hotmail email address stamped on it from iCloud's Mail web UI, so you would have to be wanting to switch completely to your @me.com address. I have a feeling that we will see adds on the iCloud website soon... Brandon H Supervisor Posted October 18, 2011 Supervisor Share Posted October 18, 2011 figured out how to set up IMAP for hotmail on OSX, you need an extra app called mbox mail mbox has an app for iPhone as well, both apps are cheap and completely worth it
Glassed Silver
Yesterday I drag and dropped a mail from my gmx account to my iCloud account by accident. So yes, that works. On the other hand, Mail is smart, when you have a collapsed inbox folder, you can drop the mails on it and they will stay in their account (gmx -> gmx, iCloud -> iCloud for example) I like Mail. :) Glassed Silver:mac
Manish
I don't want to use POP3, IMHO Pop3 sucks big time. If I read an email on my phone I want it to show as read next time I go on my computer I've held on to my Hotmail account for years now, and the lack of official support for Mail or even Outlook on Macs is pretty much the only thing that annoys me about the service. POP3 is useless.

game_over
I would think twice about doing this. I have been using MobileMe/iCloud mail for over a year when i bought a MobileMe, i slowly started migrating to my @me.com address and liked the integration with Addresses and all the rest of it, with iCloud i used @me address for everything Apple and thought i should seriously start thinking about migrating from my @gmail.. after a weeks use i wouldn't dream of it, iCloud has made the mail a lot worse, sure it looks nice and the integration is nice but there are next to no features and it's slow. Now i'm ditching the @me for email and moving everything back to my @gmail account. I know it doesn't answer your question, just some advice, maybe use iCloud for a couple of weeks to see how you like it? It's seriously not a patch on Gmail or even Hotmail. If you wanted a totally awesome email solution check out Office365, its £4/month but you get Outlook Live client which is amazing and you can use your own domain so you could find something nice and short. You should probably put a "My experiences are based off the web-based client" disclaimer on this post. iCloud Mail works perfectly with iOS and OS X (and, honestly, the web client does pretty well for when you don't have access to your devices; it's not like we're talking about SquirrelMail here). Except Google Apps instead of 365. Use own domain, gmail features and interface, free. Personal preference I guess. I lovee SquirrelMail before I had Gmail :p In all seriousness, the iCloud sync sucks, it is just plain old IMAP. You will get a Powerful web client, Push ActiveSync for your iDevices, and plain old IMAP for your Apple Mail... All in perfect sync on all devices you have now, and in the future. Gmail supports practically everything.

Shadrack
Squirrel Mail is awesome! :p I concur. Squirrel Mail was perfect back in the day when it had all the features of other web based email plus it was all yours and you could manipulate it to do whatever you want. Is it kept up-to-date? Is there anything comparable? Seems like these days Hotmail, Gmail, and iCloud Mail are so javascripted and web 2.0+ out that it would be difficult for an open source project to keep up. I dunno.
