What I assume Apple will Revolutionize

Recommended Posts

I am sitting in a classroom reading a book, but have my iPhone and laptop out as well. I was playing around with clicking on a word on the iPhone, and selecting define, to get the definition. Humorousness took over, and I did the same thing with my book (because I wanted to pretend it would work).

My assumption, Apple will release flexible paper like interfaces before 2015. I believe this is the next step. I understand that this technology exists on very small prototype devices, but I mean they will create and market it to the masses. I'm talking about a Kindle/iPad size device that is flexible like paper. Perhaps not fold-able, but close.

One downside, it would probably have to be on a solid surface for you to press it at any capacity, but swiping and things can be done while walking, like a newspaper.

Just wanted to share. What do you think?

BTW I am a MS fanboy, and think Microsoft can jump ahead of everyone if they did this, as they are already working in their Labs with it. However, it will be like early tablets, and Apple will come in and perfect it.

Would be easily broken in a bag and any case you get for it would make it solid, so you might as well have a normal tablet.

There will be a market for flexible displays, and there's already a lot of work going on with them, but I don't think it's Apple's territory.

I think electronic paper is the next step also. I don't see it becoming anything comparable to our tablets but more of a device that instead of printing to paper, you "print" to the electronic paper that can store so x number documents. Instead of walking by a news stand and buying a newspaper that you carry around, you'd walk buy, pay for it, and quickly upload the paper/magazine you just bought and walk on.

See, thats where I disagree. BTW I did mention that there is work going on, I hope you read my whole post. If you made a material that is strong, almost plexiglass type that is plyable, it shouldn't bread if you had it in a bag. If you were able to roll it up, fold it a serrated pivot points for instance, you should be fine. You can say the same thing about the iPad or any phone, but they don't break easily in a bag.

not quite 2015, and not particularly by apple but yeah, some kind of flexible paper for all intents and purposes will be released. in a nutshell, we're heading toward a very connected lifestyle with information at our fingertips. bill gates envisioned this, and their R&D probably toys with all of this...it's just that their timing sucks and their inability to always understand how the consumer would want to interact.

Ugh, nobody would do that, everything will be wireless/cell data driven.

Nah, a solid surface is better for reading from, writing on and interacting with generally. A floppy piece of expensive paper isn't going to be the successor to the tablet. As I said it has it's uses but in other areas.

I think 2015 is a bit soon to expect something like that. While there are already prototype flexible displays, you're missing the flexible hardware, batteries, cameras, microphones, speakers, etc.

All I know is I wish I had an iPhone 22 years ago when I was in High School...I would have cheated in so many exams it wasn't going to be funny!!!!!....LOL

This has already been thought up by Microsoft in one of their future prediction videos. Look 2/3rds into the video

The idea of flexible paper thin dispays has being around for years.

i think 5 years ago a company was working on prototype to be released soon and then a product a couple years later.

still nothing, but i am sure every company that deals with displays and interfaces is headed that way.

Still don't see the allure of a flexible display apart from weight savings and size. I can't think of anything that I would even use that for. On top of that, why would we ever want to have multiple 'pages' of independant displays?

Great video, that's exactly what i was talking about at about 4:20, go Microsoft!

I also agree, a moving modifiable image page shouldn't need more than 1 page haha, but cool idea.

Idea has been around for years and in a few movies as well. But if Apple is the first to come out with something to market, they will patent the hell out of it and claim they invented it.

I did acknowledge that it's been around for a while. And thanks for the drone like Apple claim they invented it response.

Nothing drone about it. Apple has done it many times and from the mouth of Mr. Jobs himself. Oh, and your quite welcome. :)

Then less than 24 hours later, I see this. :p

I think the real big next super Apple product will be: iRobot

Seriously, I find it quite weird that robots until now are mainly used in the industry only.If Apple or some other company can make aa robot in the right way they maybe be a real game changer.

i think every single company and person that has a patent on something clames they invented it... that i think is the purpose fo the patent in the first place. to protect ones invention.

the comment of

But if Apple is the first to come out with something to market, they will patent the hell out of it and claim they invented it
if the US awarded them the patent then they obviously proved the no prior use part of the process.

example ( Who Envented The Telephone : http://en.wikipedia....one#Controversy )

OnTopic: so far the rumors of a of a TV set,, its likely as that is pretty much the only aera they havent a hand in yet ( except the small AppleTV units.) but the true Apple TV will more then likely be a diffrently designed Sony Bravia with the Current AppleTV box soldered into the set.

other thent hat i dont think there is anything else other then transportation stuff, or toasters/microwaves/fridges

And Nokia beat them to it...

I'm guessing they will dabble in the TV market for a bit and then maybe look into the car interface industry. That's a big area that everybody has failed at so far.

they do have a TV in the works, its even in the Steve Jobs Bio that just came out. gizmodo is reporting that it will have SIRI. so a TV regardless of what it has is a given unless they scrap it.

car interfaces is questionable though. its not in your face enough for it to matter i think
