Best domain registrar?

Question

Hello,

Just wondering what domain registrar people are using on here. I'm looking to switch away from Enom to a better known company. I'm looking into GoDaddy and Network Solutions.

Thoughts? What registrar are you using?

Thanks!

ICANN has the policy on the 60 day transfer so I wouldn't worry about that too much with registrars.

I am currently with eNom and haven't had any issues, plus if you are looking to use a service for reselling domains, it is widely supported with most Hosting Control Panels such as Whmcs, Clientexec etc...

I am not partial though to any particular registrar. I am sort of in the market for lower cost registrations and have looked at namecheap, but still not 100%on them yet myself. Glad to see your good comment on them Grinch. :)

I use NO-IP. Been with them since 2003 when I first started my website. They've never let me down, and are very easy and simple to use with a lot of different services.

I've used Name.com & NameSilo. NameSilos's really cheap & they're good with their replies. I dislike how all domain prices have gone up. Once upon a time [ 2006 - 2009 ] Name.com used to give domain registrations / renewals at US$ 5.99 /y. Now, its US$ 8.99 ... :-(

I've been with PowWeb.com since 6 years+ and they're good also they have good offers from once to a while, too bad they don't offer virtual hosting. Anyway, if you need something advanced and you like to have a hands on every aspect of your webserver then you'll need to get a virtual hosting solution, I don't much but I think Neowin here uses ThePlanet as there provider.

I've always used Godaddy. They aren't bad at all, and with coupon codes they are very, very cheap. :)

Another vote for godaddy.

namecheap get another vote from me, feature packed and good prices in my opinion. At the end of the day all registrars have to go through ICANN and conform to their policies.

Well done (Y)

I used GoDaddy for [about 5] years because they seemed cheap.

Then, earlier this year, I saw Namecheap had a very good deal, so I transferred to them.

123-reg.co.uk are pretty good too!

I do like 123-reg but there major problem (for me) is they don't allow you to pre enter dns info when transferring a domain and don't copy existing dns settings on transfer.

I found Fasthost do allow pre dns creation before transferring but not been with them long enough to tell you how good they are.

I would avoid provider-one.net

I have used several different ones over the last 15+ years. GoDaddy so far has been the easiest to deal with. They are the simplest to get issues corrected with, and changes are fast, and mistakes on their parts are fixable without acts of God, just someone that can think. They even retook a domain that was stolen (the person claimed i was no longer around and not affiliated with the group, filed paperwork and everything, the transfered, moved to a new Register), after they looked at the original purchase information for the domain through them and noticed that I actual did the purchase and not the group, so they cancel the transfer, and 24 hours later, I had the domain name back. Simple and easy.

They are the simple and easiest to manage the domain settings and are helpful, just a lot of additional add-on crap they offer.

Just an update - I've been trying to switch to NameCheap over the past few days now, but my old host is giving me the wrong code (called six times, received four different codes, all rejected).

Just got another code today and everything is going through so far. I really hate JustHost.

I like Godaddy, but they are a pain with all the ads and addons they try to sale. But, easy to work with when it comes to DNS and all of that good stuff. I use my own server to host.

Namecheap are awesome, they give you Free DNS hosting even if your domain is not with them. The Free DNS hosting is not basic either, it is easy to use, has buttons to pre-fill the MX records with Google Apps settings, and my favourite, allows you to set a "URL Redirect" from any hostname (including the domain itself). The URL Redirect works in the background by making an A record to their server, and their server then makes an HTTP redirect to any address you like. Very handy, and no ads.
