Family dog hungry for cash

When Christy Lawrenson left her home near Old Moultrie Road in St. Augustine a couple of weeks ago, she left ten $100 dollar bills stuffed in an envelope, her car payment ready to take to the bank.

When her husband Joe came home during a lunch break to get the money and pay the bill, the envelope was gone.

All that was left were shredded pieces of $100 dollar bills on the ground and the couple?s mixed-breed dog named Tuity sitting nearby.

?I saw one $100 dollar bill almost ripped in half on the floor,? Joe Lawrenson said. ?I found like three or four pieces around the house. I thought somebody broke in originally.?

But there was only one explanation.

?She ate the bill, the envelope ? everything,? Christy Lawrenson said.

Joe Lawrenson fed Tuity some peroxide to induce vomiting. Tuity did, and later on the Lawrensons were able to reassemble the bills from the vomit. They pieced and taped the bills together with the help of Joe?s mother and a friend.

?We just couldn?t believe it. We were both just in shock,? Christy Lawrenson said. ?My mother-in-law and friend couldn?t stop laughing.?

The Lawrensons have had Tuity since she was a puppy. She is 4 years old now, and is usually ?pretty laid back and calm,? Joe Lawrenson said. Tuity is a mixed-breed dog, part chow, lab and a few other things.

This isn?t the first time Tuity has eaten something strange.

?When she was a puppy, I saw her eat cigarettes once,? Joe Lawrenson said.

As for the money, one bill remained intact. The Lawrensons took the other $900 to the bank and got $800 in fresh money in return for their tattered bills. The bank didn?t accept one $100 bill because it was missing a crucial piece.

That bill has been sent to the U.S. Treasury along with details about what happened ? and photo evidence.

Tuity is fine, aside from some reddish peroxide stains on her black coat, Christy Lawrenson said.

?We just keep our money away from her now,? Joe Lawrenson said.
