Kaspersky, Norton F-Secure or other suite? Which is the best?

Question

My license for Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 is about to expire next month or so.

av-comparatives lists F-Secure as product of the year 2010, Norton (Internet Security/360) is also in that list as a good runner-up, but no Kaspersky?

So I was wondering which Internet Security Suite is the best: system load/performance and detection rates?

If you insist on paying for security, then go with Norton Internet Security. Has a good feature set and minimal memory footprint without any lag.

However, I would strongly suggest you to try Microsoft Security Essentials and the default built-in Windows Firewall. Don't be fooled by the fact it is made by Microsoft. It's free and provides just as good security, and there are a countless forum members that will vouch for it as better than a lot of free and paid alternatives.

Before i switched to Mac, I used Norton Internet Security (I still do on my BootCamp partition) and I had no problems with it. Installs in less than a minute and it's the lightest AV suite around. The Pulse updates are a cool feature too. Norton is not what it used to be and people should give it a chance.

Yes but I have yet come across an intuitive gui that makes configuration of windows firewall easy. My vote, KIS

I would stick with KIS. Keep an eye out for sales at your local retail stores. Around here there's always several ~$20 sales at one of the three chains (Bestbuy, Futureshop, Staples) around the year, I haven't paid full price for KIS, like, ever.

Ditto, I've paid on average ?3 per license for the past 4 years, simply buy a 3 or 5 user pack of the 2010 or 2011 versions for around ?10.

The serial works on the download of the new 2012 version

KIS all the way, KAV is pointless unless you have a firewall already etc

Despite all positive reactions - and I am a happy KIS user btw - how come KIS is not listed in av-comparatives test as one of the best?

edit: oh you're looking at summary reports, well the chart at the beginning is pretty informative...

Just give a try to NIS, triall is free, You can always install and run KIS if You don't like it.

KIS and NIS are on almost same level if we talk about detection, resources consuption is on plus for NIS, IMO....

everyone and their dog will be giving you a million opinions about whats better... I hate to add to it but i have have tried all the major ones out myself, and alot of the minor ones too....

to sum it up it works like this for me: I surf porn, download warez, use cracks, use keygens etc etc. Basically all the bad stuff where the bad viruses are. For the last 2 years i been using www.malwarebytes.com professional for the cost of $24.95 for a lifetime license. For 2 years i have never had a problem and never had something that malwarebytes couldn't fix. All my friends use it, all my family use it, and all the machines i service/sell use it.

I easily recommend www.malwarebytes.com
