Compaq CQ50-130US compatibility

I'll answer with a question

WHY ? Processors arent a major factor in speed

Its a Compaq - dont waste $$

Its a Compaq

Its old, and needs to be replaced - a used ThinkPad with a C2D can be purchased for $300 & will last for years more.

Its a Compaq dont waste $$

If you are replacing a bad CPU - you already wasted too much time & energy

If you're doing this for someone else, I hope you're at least getting laid from it.

I have already spent too much time on this question

Its a Compaq

Lol, wow. IBM is good, but I will rate Compaq (which is just HP) right next to them. Also, $60 for a Core 2 Duo (even though Recertified) is good enough for me to get by with this laptop.

Youre gonna put Compcrap right next to a ThinkPad - you're kidding, right ? Surely your kidding - you have to be - because anyone who sincerely believes something so stupid would be too dumb to operate a computer.

If you're serious about that absurdly dumbass comment -

I see you spend most of your time in politics - stay there. To try and explain how f*-ing stupid that comment is - it would be the equivalent in saying a Honda is right next to a Rolls Royce - yes that stupid.

I understand if you bought one of those pieces of garbage that are only manufactured to prey on the pathetic, the poor, and the intellectually dysfunctional - but please dont glamorize it.

And if you're kidding - thats a good one.;)

Oh and thanks for telling me its "just an HP" - like that somehow makes it better ? or worse ?

OK - since you're asking and not trying to tell me Im wrong....

Compaq is HP's "economy line" - that means they are made with cheap parts, no QC (quality control), and no reliability. That cant be argued - its a simple business formula - low cost = lower price.

It is the same as Acer, HP for the most part, Dell's Inspiron line. They aren't cheap because these companies like you and want you to have something good for low cost - its because they are made with bargain bin parts.

I used to work @ Wistron - it is the company that does warranty repairs for most manufacturers (not all) across the entire country, its in Grapevine, TX ; and can tell you the bulk of their business is Compaq - not because there are more Compaq's - but because the computers are horrible.

They are simply filling a spot in the marketplace - the bottom of the barrel, where people who dont know better, cant afford better, or simply think specs are specs and it doesnt matter whose name is on it.

The industry works like this: A parts manufacturer makes a piece of hardware, maybe laptop chassis. Now the top companies (called "Tier 1" companies) get the premier stuff - but have to pay more for it. Then Dell, and HP, and Toshiba (for the Satellite line) , etc will get the 2nd round of parts, then whats left - (the chips that didnt pass QC so they downclock them just to get them to pass muster) - AMD was famous for this - it reduces die waste shrinkage, they have a part that fails, shut down a core and the quad core becomes a tri-core @ 60% of the cost. - Its simple business 101. Much of the industry works like this. Your premier makers will spend more for the more reliable stuff - (better materials, seamless Japanese caps, first run chips, etc.)

Thats why Acer, and Compaq are so inexpensive - the makers dont spend any money on good parts - they cant @ that cost - and HP has Compaq's name for this very reason. Its the same formula for many businesses: cars, guns, clothes, etc.

Its easy to see the results in # of warranty repairs - Compaq & Acer are horrible and it shows. Apple, ASUS, & Lenovo are on top - and their prices are much higher. ThinkPad's have the least amount of warranty repairs out of any company - but Lenovo gets 2nd place because of the crappy IdeaPad line.

Of course you will have many cases where a Compaq or Acer might have a long problem-free life. There are no products with 100% failure. But the vast majority are complete junk. I could go into a lot more detail on this because I have a lot of experience with this sort of thing - but I will save you from all of that and just say this: Whenever I give a review, or opinion, or simple commentary - its from experience of dealing/fixing many of them. Ownership of 1 product, maybe 2 is in no way conclusive and indicitive of the whole.

The result is a $300 laptop @ Wal-mart from Compaq, or Acer & a $2000 laptop from Apple & ThinkPad (Lenovo)

Sorry for being so long-winded but you asked

No problem for the long-windedness (afterall I need something to read while I am at work in a Computer Repair shop). I understand what you are saying. ASUS does make those "top of the line" computers, but for a general use machine, HP/Compaq (if bought now) does make pretty good machines. Yes, if you buy Compaq's older models (when they were just Compaq) they sucked on turds . But nowadays, you aren't really buying a Compaq machine, rather a HP machine with a different name on the front. That is what the laptop I am using is. The Compaq Presario CQ50-130US (to my knowledge) was made when Compaq was owned by HP which is why I have no problem with the modern day HP/Compaq.

Thats cool -

Since you work in a repair shop - do you work on 1 type of machine, or whatever walks through the door ? If its the latter, do you see one name more often than others ?

I know when I was working for Data Doctors a while back - we would see the same things over and over again on certain brands - bad PSU in compaq, Gateway & Dell desktops, & bad LCD & fans in HP laptops.

That brings back horrible memories - I hate dealing with the public - man I love my job now :D
