What file are needed for drivers to work?

Recommended Posts

I am making a Windows 7 Installation disk and I want to add as many drivers as I can. I current'y have around 747 drivers but, I want to know what files that are only needed for the driver to be installed. I don't want the software to be installed, I just want the driver.

I have a lot of conexant drivers and there is a lot of files. There is even some wav files which I am almost certain that you don't need those type of files. So I am going to ask a few questions.

Is it a .ini or a .inf that really makes a driver work?

Are .cat files needed?

Are .sys files needed?

If .ini files are what makes a driver, are the .inf files needed as well? Visa Versa as well.

Is an .exe needed?

.dll needed?

.bin needed?

What about .bmp? Probably not right?

There are also some setup.exe files, are they needed or are they just for the software?

Instead of answering all those questions, maybe the answer to this question will only be needed to be answered. (Weird how I put that)

Are the file that are only needed to "JUST" install the driver, "NOT" the software listed in the .ini or the .inf file?
