Video Camera Advice

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for a replacement camera for my ageing SD video camera which is slowly dying of old age. Primary use is going to be for Family movies, birthday's, christmas and trips out etc.

The two camera's i have come up with are these two

Sony HDRCX115EB -

Panasonic SD80 -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-SD80-Full-Camcorder-Intelligent/dp/tech-data/B004I1KPLG/ref=de_a_smtd

my main convern is will these camera's work with my mac? I use iMovie to edit the movies i take and i notice both of these use AVCHD which iam not 100% sure iMovie supports.

Any advice or suggestion would be highly welcome

Kindest

Rich

Pretty much all of todays consumer HD cameras use AVCHD, so if iMovie doesn't support it, it'd be time to switch to something that works :)

But it should support it.

Apple has a pretty neat tool that allows you to check the support of a camera in iMovie.

http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US

It says that it supports the Panasonic, as well as support the "HDR-CX115E". I'm not sure what the difference is between them, if there is any at all. But it says they support both those cameras, so you're good to go!
