While we?ll file this under rumor as the information cannot be verified at this time, hacker SKFU claims to have not only extracted but decrypted PKG archive files for the PS Vita. This comes mere days following the release of his PS Vita firmware extractor.

How was this possible? SKFU writes on his blog that Sony reused the PSP?s known AES key for securing the files, which was leaked into the wild as a result of various exploits months ago.

The discovery won?t lead to full-blown, PSP-esque homebrew access, at least not by itself. It will, however, allow those interested to get closer to the raw bits of Vita binaries. Which is something you?d think Sony would do everything in its power to avoid, especially after the recent PS3 security blunder.

I'd be surprised if they kept that key the same with the launch units...
