Skyrim Patch May Have Broken Things

Recommended Posts

Gamers rejoicing over Bethesda's recent patch release for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim may want to hold off downloading it for now.

Numerous users have reported that some of the problems that plagued the game pre-patch still haven't been fixed, such as the frame rate issues for the PlayStation 3 version. A running thread on the official Bethesda forums is keeping a tally on all the bugs that are either new or still haven't been fixed.

One interesting, if not humorous, bug that popped up due to the patch are dragons with erratic flight patterns (see below). Another widespread bug being reported is the game no longer recognizing magic resistances.

Keep in mind these issues aren't affecting everyone, so expect varying results. Patch v1.2 was released yesterday for PlayStation 3 and should arrive on Xbox 360 and PC sometime today. We reached out to Bethesda for comment and will update this story if we hear back.

Brilliant.

Thankfully the PC version doesn't seem to suffer from them. I was playing 1.2 yesterday on PC and encountered two Dragons and neither of them flew backwards. One did decide to attack a group of Thalmor Justicars and brought them over to me. Dragon battles are usually quite easy but when you have 4 Justicars and a Dragon, it gets quite difficult.

AI annoys me sometimes... I was beasting a dragon, when it attacked a giant, then a group of 5 random bandits. When they all saw me they stopped attacking each other and everyone went for me... Me against a giant + dragon + 5 random bandits doesn't end well...

apart from that, can't fault anything yet...

The PC version does have the same bug, it probably only occurs in certain locations and/or under certain conditions though.

Its not truly broken until you see Vault Boy and some Brotherhood of Steel walking through your game :D

However it would be ace to see Liberty Prime walking through the game world. In fact I think we need a mod to add this :D :D

Yeah this new patch is crummy on the PS3. I don't have any lag any more, but bugs popping up like it's a hot summers day.

i can even complete the main quest as its glitched on me :( cant even learn the shout as i go upto the symbols on the floor and it doesn't do anything :( Also cant finish the thieves guild as that's glitched on me aswell, cant speak to the people im meant to as when you leave the cave with the water rising and you need to find a escape, i find one and the other 2 people continue to swim and drown (even tho they dont die). Hope the next patch fixes some of the quest glitches.

So glad I'm waiting until all patches are out to pick this up

Me too. I learnt my lesson when I got F:NV on day one.

How much validation/QA goes into PS3 patches before they're uploaded? Things like dragons flying backwards really should have been spotted.

It's a feature! And 60% likely to become an internet meme. All your dragons are fly backwards in skyrim.

i've had a few issues where I disappear from my horse while riding around. I think i prefer red dead redemptions horse mechanics as well. But still a great game!

Reason why my Steam has been in 'offline' mode since BEFORE patch was released, and will continue to be until this mess is properly fixed.

Way to go Bethesda!

I would rather wait for the Unofficial Skyrim Patch by TES community like the earlier Oblivion patch. Now that was epic. :)
