If you could show your younger self one game from this gen...

...what would it be?

You could go back to the time when you first started gaming and show your younger self one game from this gen, which would you choose and why? And perhaps if the one you would pick was already mentioned you can mention that one and an alternative. Just so we don't have everyone say "Skyrim" or "Battlefield 3".

I'm going to kind of cheat and say Super Mario 3D land. That way I could show glasses-less 3D, touch screen etc.

OK. your turn.

X3 - Graphically looks amazing and the amount of depth involved in the game is awesome. It has steep learning curve that put me off when I first started playing but when I finally gave it another go it was VERY rewarding

My 6 year old self I'd probably have to say something like New Super Mario Bros Wii (or Super Mario 3D land, as was previously mentioned), actually. I was a big Mario fan around that time and being able to see it in 3D, using a similar style NES controller would have been fantastic. Alternatively, if I may, I would have loved to been able to show him my PSP or 3DS streaming video. Around that age (maybe a tad older) I used to do this funny thing like tilt my Gameboy towards the TV so it looked like my Gameboy was displaying colour video, as I really wished something like that would have been feasible as it would have been awesome. Who knew 10 or so years later watching video on a games console would have become reality!

My teenage self, also, if I may, I would have loved to have shown him the Zelda HD Wii U demo... I know not exactly a game entirely, but I was becoming big into my Zelda and Pok?mon around this time and a Pok?mon game isn't out for Wii U yet (besides, what I really wanted out of a pokemon game at the time still hasn't actually happened yet) so seeing Zelda in near-realistic visuals would have been mind blowing. Alternatively, showing off Goldeneye 007 Reloaded HD would have been good too!

End of the day I could have showed my younger self Battlefield 3 or God of War 3, but my younger self wasn't massively into these games so while I might have liked the graphical fidelity, I wouldn't have liked all of the gore etc.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Starcraft 2 / any good RTS

Need For Speed or any good racing game.

Me and my bro have been playing POP from the very beginning, and for RTS, DUNE 2 was a big hit for us. We wlso played Accolade Grand Prix a lot.

The 3 oldies mentioned above, I still have them on 5 1/4 & 3 1/2 disks.

I remember the days of Pitstop, paperboy and BMX simulator on my C64 so to see anything 3D on the 3DS would make my jaw drop. Add something like Half Life 2 or CoD MW mulitplayer and I would probably faint.

Superb question BTW!!

I'd probably show Mirror's Edge, or Heavy Rain. Ooh, just remembered Portal, and Team Fortress 2. One of those four. :p

I think it would be something like Heavy Rain for the story telling side and showing that in the future we will have interactive movies where we can define the outcome. Something we have all wanted to surely do when watching a film.

The other game I would show would be Flower, for its pure simplicity and calming nature in the first levels, showing that emotion does exist in gaming and that it's not all about who can go the fastest or who can get the most headshots.

I'd show him the game called the 50 million dollar jackpot.....

As for a console/computer game, I wouldn't show myself anything, why torture myself with something I wouldn't be able to play for decades.

Good choices (Y)

Demons Souls/Dark Souls :p

Maybe Uncharted 3 for the graphics.

So you'd want to torture your younger self, then?

Tell him that game is considered very easy by future standards. lol.

I would show either Gran Turismo 5 or Forza 4.

I would also show Uncharted 3.

Then Battlefield 3.

This was pretty easy for me when I thought about it. And my mind would truly have exploded considering what i grew up on.

In 1980 I was playing the Atari 2600, and my favorite game was Pitfall. So that is why I would show UC3.

I also loved any games that had to do with racing and or just being in a vehicle, whether it was Pole Position or Stampede. Hence the GT5 or Forza 4.

I also loved a little game called War on the Atari, and it was literally as basic as one could get. I also was big time into GI Joe toys, so I would end the demo with BF3 just to totally blow my own mind that much more.

I'd show myself an iPhone/iPod Touch - games with much higher graphical and sound fidelity can be played on a device that fits in your pocket and via touchscreen...oh and you can fit literally hundreds (if not more) games on it, without cartridges or discs.

None. Anything that's graphically advanced would destroy my young love for gaming - compare Morrowind to Skyrim for example. Motion controls - same. My 6 year old hyperactive self would think it was the best, and hate controllers. Maybe, as someone else suggested, angry birds or words with friends, so I could see what new directions gaming was headed towards, but that's about it.

Or world of warcraft. Just so I'd know that once I got hooked, it would be around until forever (and never look any better :p )

Farmville etc.

Then I'd tell myself to make it in the past and build statues of myself after swimming in the moolah I'd get from those stupid games.
