Llawnroc
Hey! Thought I'd ask the very well informed people on Neowin regarding a dilema I have. I am looking to get a tablet device for the wife for christmas, she spends a lot of her time playing games on Facebook so whatever I choose needs to be able to support these games. Did think about a netbook or a small laptop, but seeing she's due to give birth on Christmas eve I really need something that can be used easily with one hand, lightweight and durable. Currently looking towards the Galaxy Tab or the Motorola Xoom, but value your opinions. Many thanks Llawnroc
Teebor
Yeah I was going to say that Android is probably your best bet for the flash support in those games (for now anyway) I would go with the Galaxy Tab as they are pretty good OR if you can stretch to it the Asus Transformer (the Prime if you are in the US) as this has better battery life than the iPad 2 and can be used with the dock like a netbook or on its own as a tablet. However if you are in the US the old transformer prices have been plummetting so you could get a good deal and you will get the upgrade to ICS next year anyway
Llawnroc
Thanks Teebor, I had completely forgotten about the Asus. Will take a look at it now and compare the specs and prices.
Odom Member Posted December 13, 2011 Member Share Posted December 13, 2011 I remember reading somewhere a few weeks ago that the Flash performance for Facebook games on tablets wasn't that great. At the time they complained that the games always stuttered or weren't displayed properly. I don't remember more details on that article (nor what devices were used, I only remembered they spoke af at least testing 3 different ones). However, would recommend you go to a store and have a play with it there.
Hardcore Til I Die
What games does she play exactly? The iPad has native applications for bejewelled blitz, FarmVille and zynga poker. It probably does for others too; let me know if you want me to check any more.
HawkMan
Remember that Facebook is working hard to release project spartan, which will mean a major html5 push with a lot of the facebook games changing from flash to html5 for universal device support. And their mostly built to be used with a mouse, there are few things on the Internet that interpret a tap on a touchscreen the same way as a click with a mouse, it's possible the "controls" would be messed up while playing the flash games too. One would figure Kongregate (big flash gaming portal) have a seperate site and app with just games made for touch for a reason. Might be a good idea to figure out what kind of games are interesting and get an iPad (or some android tablet) get some similar games form the appstore, unless of course the Facebook integration is really important. Remember that Facebook is working hard to release project spartan, which will mean a major html5 push with a lot of the facebook games changing from flash to html5 for universal device support. Well it sounds like she would have use for the tablet and games this week, I don't think Facebook will be done in time... Then again, I havn't checked, have they converted any of the top games yet?
