removed memory issues

allows non-intrusive advertising in a non-sandboxed browser which has been criticized by Microsoft and Google.

Adblock Plus 2.0.1 is now available:

https://addons.mozil...fx+tb+fn+sm.xpi

...still no update for the Google Chrome version though - that's still stuck on v1.1.4 (Beta) :(

you must have the Google Chrome Adblock+ Extension which is just a Beta. there is a Adblock Plus for Chrome which is at 2.5.6 which is more up to date than the one i think you got

Nope. If you visit the AdBlock Plus site (https://adblockplus.org/en/) from Google Chrome (rather than from Firefox), the "Install Adblock plus" icon prompts you to install v1.1.4 (Beta) of "Adblock Plus for Chrome".... so where is version 2.5.6 then?? :s

Yeah, I think you're talking about a completely different Ad blocking extension!

This original forum topic was for "Adblock Plus" (website: https://adblockplus.org/en/). This particular ad blocking extension is available for both Firefox and Chrome.

The Firefox version can be found at:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

The Chrome version can be found at:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb/details

BOTH of these extensions pages reference back to the adblockplus.org website

The current version of the Firefox version is 2.0.1. The current version of the Chrome version is 1.1.4.

I suspect this "2.5.6" version you refer to relates to a different ad blocking extension to the one being discussed in this thread?

Disagree with how ad-block have now been pressured by the advertisement companies to let adverts through their ad blocker as if there's such a thing as 'acceptable advertisement'.

they are identical to each other if you have a look at it.

I seem to remember "Adblock" chrome extension (where the author made sure to claim there not same devs as mozilla plugin) and latter the firefox authors brought the "beta" of "Adblock Plus".

What filter do you guys use, easylist or fanboy's list?

it is there any problem if you use both?

I tend to subscribe to just the one list - EasyList, and then supplement this with my own custom rules.

The only issue I could see with subscribing to multiple lists is that of a slight degradation in performance i.e. if the same rule appears in multiple lists it will be processed multiple times? ...unless Adblock Plus automatically removes duplicates if you're subscribed to more than one list? ...can anyone confirm?

Disagree with how ad-block have now been pressured by the advertisement companies to let adverts through their ad blocker as if there's such a thing as 'acceptable advertisement'.

Totally agree with you! ....at least there is still the option to "opt out" of what they term "acceptable advertising"... but it does make you wonder for how long this choice will be given? :(
