Is it ok to discuss rooting of android phones on these forums? If so can someone posts some guides on how to do it safely? If not just send it to pm instead. I am having issues at this hotel I am at and they want us to pay $20 for internet access. So I am thinking of rooting my phone to enable tethering so I can use my laptop online. I have an HTC Thunderbolt. The computer I am doing this is on a Mac BookPro running a dual boot setup of Lion and Windows 7x64. Any idea on how to do this?

Yes, rooting discussions are ok here, as long as you do not ask for help that will break the law. (Y)

In your case, if it is breaking the rules of the hotel where you are staying, better stay away from asking in here.

Just for the record, it is never breaking the rules to use your own Internet connection instead of a hotel's Internet service. Aside from anything else, there would be no way for a hotel to enforce such a rule which is probably why they don't bother.

I am speaking of using the hotel's internet connection service for other than their policy usage rules, not your own .

It is against the rules to teather in some cases.

But no, like you said, using your own internet connection instead of the hotel's is not illegal at all.
