Win a free Tier 1 Subscription to Neowin

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Neowinians!

I love Neowin. It is my favourite site. I plan on subscribing soon (January 1st), and I would like to help out my fellow Neowinians. I am willing to pay for two additional Tier 1 subscriptions.

The contest is for people who cannot afford to pay for a subscription themselves, but who are a genuine asset to the Neowin community. To qualify for one of the two free subscriptions, you must:

-- Be registered prior to Tuesday, December 27, 2011

-- Have at least 100 posts

-- Provide links to at least 5 posts in the forums where you have helped answer a member's question in a meaningful, correct way

-- Not have won any contests in the past year

-- Provide a link to a screenshot showing that you are not blocking ads

-- Not current;y be a subscriber

-- Have at least 3 Likes of forum posts

-- Be reasonably active in the forums

-- Have a profile rating of at least 3 stars

-- Must have a valid, working PayPal account

You may enter ONCE. The contest closes at 8:00PM Eastern time on January 3rd, 2012. I will review entries to ensure they meet the criteria, then will randomly select 2 winners. Winners will be notified via Personal Message where I will ask them for their PayPal email address. Funds will be forwarded to them to subscribe (unless I can directly forward the funds to Neowin -- I will have to find out).

HOW TO ENTER:

Go to http://www.intralook.ca/neowincontest and fill in the requested information. Once the winners have been selected, all data will be purged for privacy reasons. The entry form will be available starting December 27, 2011 at about 4:00PM Eastern (or whenever I finish making the page).

Yes you can directly fund neowin, confirm with a mod, but you can just put in the payment info what account you want to credit. So. O wouldn't need to get people's PayPal info.

But confirm with a mod/admin

that's really cool of you to do....two thumbs up. It not only helps neowin, but it'll also make someone's holiday season much brighter. Outstanding! (Good luck to everyone!)

Sounds like a (very well written) scam.

OMG... Seriously? I'm working on the database stuff now for the contest, but look at the sign-up page.... Seriously, dude. ALL of the info I ask for I could manually gather. It's ALL publicly available on Neowin's profile site. I'm trying to help people and the site. I resent your suggestion....

As for PayPal, how on earth is sending people (or Neowin) money a scam? Am I ripping myself off? It's not like I'm asking for their account passwords

I see nothing wrong with someone trying to give back to the community.

whitebread, you should be able to send the whole amount for all three Tier 1s with your screen name and the ones you choose without having to send them the money.

Just so everybody knows... The reason I am asking you to enter the information in an external site and not just in the forum is just to make collecting and analysing the data much easier.

Woah thats really generous of you! I qualify but I'm buying my own subscription too plus I think there are others that are much more deserving of it :p

People like you are the reason I stick around on Neowin, it has such an awesome community :D

I'm procrastinating too... :p

I could do what the rules ask for, but that would require A LOT of back tracking and such... just not worth my free time at the moment. It would most likely take me an hour to get all that info, and I earn more than that to just buy a sub if I was going to lol.

Should I relax the rules a bit? If so, how?

Maybe remove the 3 star or above user rating because some people are ass hats and give you a bad rating just because they don't agree with your opinion but other than that I think its pretty fair :)

Just make it 100+ post, be in good standing, and been here a certain time. Everyone has helped another, at least most have. But for those of us that have been here for years upon years, the helping slows down sometimes, and would require a lot of searching through old post to find such.

Maybe to something like...

-- Be registered prior to Tuesday, December 27, 2011

-- Have at least 100 posts

-- Provide links to at least 5 posts in the forums where you have helped answer a member's question in a meaningful, correct way

-- Not have won any contests in the past year

-- Have a profile rating of at least 3 stars

-- Must have a valid, working PayPal account

Those things crossed out are the things that can take time or make a lot not want to enter. Everything left on there is something that most can view about the winners from just looking at their profile, except for "likes in a forum post" as I don't know how you find out you were liked in a post :p

But it is your money and generosity, so make them monkeys do as you want for them peanuts :p

True, some people just dislike others lol.

I liked that rule. I think it sort of shows how helpful you are.

In the long run, someone who is "good" really shouldn't have enough "haters" to lower their stars lol, except if you are warwagon and keep posting such horrible horrible jokes :p Only kidding war:)

Rules have been changed. You no longer need a specific rating, and you only have to provide links to two pages where you have been helpful. That better? :)

True, the majority of peoples ratings are accurate :) Plus most of the people I've seen with really rubbish ratings that I think deserve higher are already subscribers :p
