Question

An updated "Best Firewall" poll for 2012. Please use this as a reference when researching Firewall utilities. As time goes on, the poll can be updated to add further options.

Happy Voting!

Hello,

It is a cumulative poll. At the end of year, the message thread will be locked and you will be able to go back and see the results in total.

Aryeh Goretsky

Considering 2012 is only 50% complete, how could anyone say which is the "definitive best"?

Definitive Best would be waiting for the year to end, then vote on what the best for that year was as it would be impossible for newer versions or applications to come to market.

By your very own definition, a new product could come to market in October which makes the ones listed appear as childsplay. Yet, everyone already voted now, leaving this amazing, new product with no/minimal votes and a lame product as the definitive best.

Hello,

Since the poll is started at the beginning of the year and hasn't been updated, something which is new?or simply missed?would be selected as "Other (please specify)" and written in as a reply to the topic.

This is not a rigorous scientific poll meant to withstand the cold, harsh light of philosophy, but rather one for education, to show general industry trends, and to provide polite, thoughtful discussion amongst forum members. I do not think waiting until the end of the year and posting all the candidate for that year would be as interesting for forum members, but, that said, you are welcome to give it a try next year in 2013 and see how many people want to talk about 2012's firewall software. Perhaps I am wrong and it will really take off.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

Windows Built-In-Firewall as I have never used the others but I tried to use Zone Alarm once and I uninstalled it after 24 hours, I guess I didn't like the performance. ;)

+1 for Microsoft ISA , Sad state of affairs when you need an actual edge firewall just to browse the internet without 10-25% of the http requests being wasted on tracking and adverts..

For clients ESET's endpoint security is decent but its more important how the firewall its configured than the brand
