Mario Kart annoyances. Also how does this happen?

First one:

Playing online last night - my brother & I. We were on my brothers account & he's not unlocked a great deal. Anyway, his online score was climbing fast enough. Then all of a sudden, when the tracks we were voting for ended up being mirror tracks - even though neither of us have unlocked mirrored tracks yet. They were certainly the ones we had voted for too as it stopped next to our Mii.

How do they end up mirrored? Does this happen randomly once you hit a certain online score? (As his is higher than mine).

Secondly, how annoying is people who cheat?! We had someone the other night who must've been on permanent turbo boost. Nobody could catch them. Very annoying.

Although surprisingly not quite as annoying as being in 1st for 2 laps, then as you're on the final corner of Luigi Circuit, someone manages to pick up a blue shell & bomb you with it, before someone else rams 3 red shells up your back end, with the final person wiping you out with a star/bullet ..... and then you finish last. OFTEN. Very very annoying!!!

What is the best all round kart/bike to be using? I don't want anything with handling too sensitive, but similarly something that can be controlled. I'm currently just using the Standard Kart/Bike.

ive been in several multiplayer races were some person will literally be 10-15 seconds ahead of 2nd place. i dont know how it's possible. also, it's extremely annoying when youre clearly the best racer in the group, but you finish last b/c of what you described. you should have finished 1st as you were the best racer, but someone in the back gets that freaking blue shell. i'd love to have a racing variation w/o the items. just speed and skill.

as for the best kart - i used the Mario Kart 7 wiki to piece together what works best for me. im using a feather weight character (forget his name), the Soda Jet, the Slick tires and the std glider. another thing to mention - the gliders are a scam. stick with the default standard glider. once you try others, you'll see how they affect the kart. while one might be faster in the air, it'll slow you down on the ground. another might bump your acceleration a bit, but then slow you down in the air. overall, your best off just using the standard.

Apparently this is a rare AI bug after a player disconnects in the middle of a game - the AI that takes over their Kart just becomes super powered, though I've never come across it myself.

Though I do often find myself quite far ahead in some games compared to everyone else - because the rest of them are so close to each other, they cause a lot of destruction to themselves, so they all get continually slow each other down whilst you're just fine and dandy making your lead even better because you're not stuck in the middle of the pack / mayhem.

I could understand an AI glitch where the racer just bombs off & keeps going on auto pilot.

However not one who bombs off (by bombs, i mean speeds) & then as they're coming up to lap you, they stop at you & keep driving into you, then driving off, coming back to nudge you, then off and the cycle continues.

Also, when i've been first, something will always get me. Blue shells, red shells, SOMETHING. If i ever win, it's never by a huge margin. In fact, i'd say most of my wins are where i've hung at the back for 2 laps, picked myself up a yellow mushroom, saved it for the final burst & then won.

Best tip for staying in first is to always hold your bananas / shells behind you - don't drop them. They'll protect you from red shells. And if you manage to have a mushroom whilst in first, don't use it until the final straight - in case you need it to escape a blueshell. The rest is just smart driving, though it pays to never expect to always win.

Never ever experienced the speed thing though :p
